Alila Villas Uluwatu, Bali

Located on a clifftop plateau along the southern coastline of Bali on the Bukit Peninsula, Alila Villas Uluwatu is just 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International airport. Designed by award-winning Singapore architectural firm, WOHA, which has built a global reputation for innovative design for projects in tropical environments, Alila Villas Uluwatu is a valuable exemple that have embraced the Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles. As sustainable building involves both strict compliance with energy standards and integrating the latest technologies, and finding ways to capitalize the landscapes and local traditions.

Inaugurated in 2009, this luxury complex  with 50 apartments and 35 residential villas, offers a unique way of experiencing nature, showing a deep respect for by including local materials, water conservation with soaks and rain gardens and recycling with grey water systems, using local plants from the special Bali Savannah ecosystem on the Bukit, which are being raised in a nursery on site to encourage local bird and animal life, heat pumps for water heating, salt water pools – among many others. The resort is registered for Green Globe certification, and will be the first hotel in Bali to get the highest level of certification for ESD.  The design of the interiors is completely integrated with the architecture, as the design flows from inside to outside emphasizing the refineries of combining modernist design with vernacular architecture. Alila Villas Uluwatu’s 84 pool villas are all about private space, incredible comfort and views. Gorgeous interiors blend contemporary style with accents of Bali. The open-plan design, unique flat lava rock roofs and bamboo ceiling allow the gentle sea breeze to flow in freely, while from the bed to the bathtub, every view is open to the outdoors.

Alila Villas Uluwatu offers: 52 one-bedroom villas with pool (291 sqm), 2 two-bedroom villas with pool (582 sqm), 5 three-bedroom cliffside villas with pool (2000 to 3000 sqm), and 25 three-bedroom hillside villas with pool (2000 to 3000 sqm) that encompass luxury design and lifestyle elements.

Beyond all of these aspects, the true merit of the project has to be the way it fuses the together modern and traditional local architecture in a spirit of authenticity.
