How to Create Beautiful Accent Walls for Your Rooms

Painting the entire room in one color is certainly a very good choice, but many of us love to have accent walls for our interiors. Accent walls can make a statement without overwhelming the room, creates dimension and a dynamic visual impact and also accentuate architectural features. Contemporary, modern and eclectic interiors lend themselves very nicely to the concept of accent wall color while other design style requires a little navigation to get an accent wall right. Most people think of accent walls as adding one bold color to a white room, but it doesn’t have to be always like that. You can choose one color for three of your walls and another for your accent walls and make it work very nicely. Creating accent walls is also a very good idea for redecorating your room and add a fresh look.

Finding the correct accent color or the right wall for painting it can be a bit of a challenge, but the result will surprise you in a pleasant way. So, don’t be afraid to try an accent wall color. Here are some tips that will help you to do that.

1. Before you decide what color to use, you have to think of course on which wall is better to put the contrasting color. Choose walls that features a focal point such as the wall where you have a fireplace, or your bed or the wall at the end of a hallway or a wall in a formal entry with a furniture arrangement such as a table or bench. Choose a wall that isn’t competing with other walls to be the focus of the room.

2. Look for a wall within eyesight when you are in an adjacent room. The color will perform double duty if you can also see it from other rooms. Try to think which wall do you see first when you enter that room or which wall do you see from other rooms and that wall might be your accent wall.

3. Deciding on which color you will use is a matter of personal taste and consideration of the existing decor and wall colors. Whatever color you’ll use, be sure it’s an eye-caching color that make the wall stand out. Accent walls are best achieved where all the walls are painted, so don’t paint one wall with a bold color and the others leave plain white, unless you want to create a dramatic appearance.

4. If you walls are in bright colors, you can go with a darker color from the same color scheme for your accent wall or other complementary color that you like.  You can go with lighter colors of the same shade if your walls are already dark. One easy way to find an accent color is choose a color that is one or two sunglasses lighter or darker on the color chart from the color you painted your walls.

5. Paint the ceiling the same color or slightly lighter than the surrounding walls and never with a dark color because will make the room feel enclosed and look smaller.

6.  Remember that wallpapers can also make an accent wall, not just paint.

7. There must be a balance of color throughout the room. Every other element within the room should coordinate. If you’re refurnishing, coordinate your fabrics and decorations, for exemple pillows, upholstery fabric, drapery, rugs that flatter and value the accent wall. You can also put a flower arrangement in your accent color somewhere else in the room.

Use your accent wall to give your room focus and inspire the rest of your decor, the amazing results will definitely be worth the effort. Break up the traditional look of having four walls that are painted the same color and find here some inspiration ideas!

Salina, thanks for reading us. The good think about light chocolate is that it goes with a wide range of paint schemes that can be changed out over time:slightly off-white shade, creamy tones, different forms of beige, yellow tones, pale pink for more feminine look, bird’s egg blue or mossy green or if you want an accent wall you can paint one wall even with red hues or light chocolate, but place furniture in the lighter hues against the darker accent wall so it pops.
