How to depersonalize and accessorize before selling your home

Homes are full of all the memories you’ve made while living there, and selling up can be an emotional experience, but before you leave in the physical sense, first, you need to move out mentally.

Photo by Level 23 Media on Pexels.com

That doesn’t mean you need to forget all the things you’ve done there, or why you have loved your home, but if you want to get your property sold, you need to establish in your mind that, for whatever reasons, this is no longer going to be your home and you are going to start making memories someplace else.

It’s easier said than done, but if you can make that first step, you will be able to better present your home in a most attractive way to your potential buyers.

    Depersonalize

More than ever before, sellers are being urged to make their homes “Instagram-ready” with video tours and social media now major tools for selling homes.

Showing your home off in a light where the buyer can picture their own things fitting right in will not only find you a buy more quickly, but it will also help you achieve the best price for your home too. Caledon real estate agents Jennifer Jewell say staging your home in the right way can increase your sale price by as much as 15%.

Once you’ve established, you’re no longer showing off your home but rather offering up a home perfect for someone else; you can set about removing your own personal touches from show.

Number one, take down family photos. These are a sure-fire way of showing this home is for someone else. You want the buyer to imagine their family living there, not yours.

Connected to this is anything such as your kids’ paintings and other creations stuck to the fridge or decorating bedrooms. This type of thing can be off-putting if, for example, the potential buyer doesn’t have children. They may view your home as one for a large family and decide for that reason it’s not suitable for them.

Next, think about anything that is showcasing your personal taste. This could be accent wallpapers, loud-soft furnishings, or highly stylized fixtures and fittings. If your taste doesn’t match with the potential buyers, it can make them feel like this isn’t a house they love.

Instead, remove wallpaper and paint walls in neutral tones. Pack away soft furnishings like cushions and throws that don’t fit in with the natural theme, along with ornaments, artworks, and any other items of personal memorabilia.

    Accessorize

So, once you have removed your personal stamp from the place, you still need to make it feel like home – just not your home. This is where some thoughtfully placed accessories come in.

Furniture covers can make your tired furniture look more appealing, and the addition of some neutral cushions and throws can make a living space look cozy and inviting.

Freshen up a food area such as the dining room or kitchen with a bowl of fresh fruit or add greenery to other areas with fresh cut flowers or house plants.

After hiding your disposable razor and soggy flannel, you can accessorize your bathrooms with some carefully selected fancy toiletries that will add a luxurious feel to the buyer’s potential new home.

Brewing fresh coffee, lighting a scented candle, or playing very subtle background music can all help add a little atmosphere and offer the final finishing touches.

  • Increase Your Flexibility with SUP Yoga Exercises

Increase Your Flexibility with SUP Yoga Exercises

Need an escape from everyday life?

Once you’ve got to grips with the basics of paddleboarding (which shouldn’t take too long), you’ll be able to make the most of SUP’s versatility. As well as surfing and fishing, you can use your paddleboard for yoga – one of the best ways to improve your mental health and reduce stress.

Stand up paddleboarding and yoga are two of the best exercises for improving your flexibility (as well as balance). So, just imagine how good they can be when you put them together! In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the exercises that will best benefit your balance as you find inner peace on your paddleboard. Let’s go!

    Easy Pose

    Sukhasana

If you’re new to paddleboarding, yoga, or both together, try not to do too much too soon. The best way to start is with poses which are ideal for beginners. One such pose is sukhasana, also known simply as the Easy Pose. Rather than stretching muscles and increasing flexibility and balance, this one focuses on getting to grips with the yogic breathing technique. Sit cross legged at the front of your board and look straight ahead. Close your eyes and immerse yourself in the surroundings with your hands on your knees. This is an alternative to the more difficult and ‘classic’ Lotus Pose.

    Downward Dog

    Adho Mukha Svanasana

Another easy one for beginners, the Downward-facing dog is another of the most recognisable yoga poses. Start with something called the table-top pose.

That’s being on your hands and knees, with the knees a hip width apart. Your shoulders should be directly above you hands. From there, raise your hips until your legs are fully extended and your body is in a V shape. The downward dog builds arm, shoulder, and leg strength – as well as alleviating stress and high blood pressure.

    Plank Pose

    Kumbhakasana

Not an easy pose to maintain for a long time, but the plank can built up strength throughout your whole body. You can do the plank from the downward dog position – you just need to switch your weight forward until your shoulders are directly above your wrists.

The plank is good for upperbody, spine and core strength. Building core strength will mean that you can paddle harder and faster during regular SUP, so this is a good one if you’re planning to do SUP touring or racing.

    Boat Pose

    Navasana

The boat is called so as it looks almost like a small rowing boat bobbing on the water. This pose is ideal for toning abs and strengthening your lower back.

Keep your back straight and raise it to be 45 degrees from your board. Then, do the same with the legs. From the side, your body will look like a V shape – almost like an reversed downward dog. The final touch is stretching out your hands and arms past your knees.

    Mountain Pose

    Tadasana

Tadasana, or the mountain pose, is the starting point for most standing yoga poses. The mountain pose is one of the top ways to improve your balance on the SUP. Stand by the hand well with your big toes together, but the heels slightly apart.

Image by Jill Wellington from Pixabay

Stand with your spine tall, throw your shoulders back, and look straight ahead. The mountain pose improves posture and strengthens your knees and ankles.

    Crescent Lunge

    Anjaneyasana

The crescent lunge is another pose that can be reached from downward facing dog. Bend your right knee to 90 degrees while extending your left out behind you.

This is one of the more challenging poses to do on a paddleboard, but if you’ve mastered it quite easily, consider picking your left knee up off the board! The crescent lunge strengthen your legs and core, while opening up the chest and hips.

    Cobra Pose

    Bhujangasana

Sometimes known as the upward dog pose, it’s clear when you see the cobra pose from the side how it gets its name.

Lie down on the board and lift your head, chest, and shoulders as you breathe out. At the same time, your hands should be beneath your shoulders – so you’ll be like a sideways L shape. The cobra pose strengthens the abs, as well as the arms, shoulders, and back.

    Warrior I

    Virabhadrasana I

The first of two warrior poses, this one starts from the mountain pose you saw earlier. Exhale, and move your feet apart while reaching with your arms.

    women practicing yoga
Photo by Elly Fairytale on Pexels.com

Put your palms together and look forward, or up to your hands. If you have neck problems, keep your head in a neutral position rather than looking up. The Warrior Pose can reduce high blood pressure and is good for circulation.

    Warrior II

    Virabhadrasana II

The second warrior pose is one of the most challenging in SUP yoga – thanks to the amount of strength and balanced required to execute it.

Your feet should be perpendicular to each other as you spread your arms wide, look straight ahead, and lower your hips. This pose may look simple, but it aligns the whole body and is actually quite intense!

    Corpse Pose

    Savasana

    woman relaxing in yoga mat
Photo by Elly Fairytale on Pexels.com

The Corpse Pose isn’t the most appealing name, so it’s mostly referred to by its Sanskrit name Savasana. Savasana is the perfect way to end your yoga workout. However, lying completely still and is harder than it looks. To master the savasana, you must slowly inhale and exhale as you lie on your board. The gentle rocking of the water will leave you feel as though you’re floating on the water itself. Shut everything out, meditate, and relax until your worries drift away in the savasana pose.

  • How Does Computer Vision Work?

    How Does Computer Vision Work?

Technology never stops evolving, and the eyes of the world have been on artificial intelligence for years.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Because yes, humans are not only fascinated by robots and are constantly looking for ways to improve them so that they are just as efficient, smart, and flexible than humans.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

And in the broad field of study of artificial intelligence, one key area of interest is computer vision. So what is it and how does it work? Find out the answer in this article.

    What is Computer Vision?

Computer vision is that branch of artificial intelligence which aims to develop image analysis and processing, pattern recognition and much more by a machine, a computer, a robot, or any other electronic device with processing power. The entire field is, of course,

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

inspired by the human eye and brain and its great ability to receive, recognize, and analyze an image almost instantaneously when receiving photons of light that fall on the retina. If humans are capable of that, why aren’t robots? What can we do to endow them with the same abilities? These are the questions at the heart of computer vision.

Some research goes much further and tries to achieve even more astonishing results by aiming to surpass any animal eye developed through evolution such as night vision, a wide field of view, and much more. The research is quite fruitful, and this technology is becoming so important that it sees itself being adopted in business and manufacturing sectors quite rapidly.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

How does it work? In reality, the concept is quite simple. It is simply a matter of processing a few types of information sources:

    • Pictures.
    • Videos.
    • Camera feeds.
    • Scanner feeds..

General computer vision algorithms try to extract the maximum amount of information out of each source. The various sources don’t affect the calculations much as videos are just a series of images. The only difference is that the analysis needs to be more time-sensitive and use multiple images to pick up on clues on what is an object, improving accuracy.

What are the Fields of Application for Computer Vision?

From medicine to industry, many fields today do not function without computer vision, and this is because computer vision can be faster, more specialized, more productive, and more precise than human vision depending on the scenario:

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay
    • Control procedures: deciding what a robotic arm should do based on recognizing parts on a manufacturing belt is a widespread example of this..
    • Navigation: cars nowadays let you know if you get too close to objects from behind or from the front, and self-driving cars use computer vision extensively.
    • Event detection: a common example is surveillance.
    • For organizing data and information.
    • For the customized interactions with humans based on emotion detection.
    • For detecting tumours, cancer cells, etc. in the field of medicine.

These are just a few applications of computer vision. There are many more in the real world, and each day, the field makes in-roads into other areas, so you should definitely pay attention to it.

  • 6 Tips on How to Hang Tapestries in Your Home

6 Tips on How to Hang Tapestries in Your Home

One of the best ways to refresh your space is with a statement piece of art.

Image by Eveline de Bruin from Pixabay

No matter if you are into black and white family photos, large canvas prints or other decorative items, incorporating eye-catching artwork can certainly add visual interest to any home.

Image by estelle heitz from Pixabay

Wall tapestries are considered the oldest form of woven textile crafts that continue to be one of the go-to choices among homeowners for the decoration of their walls. In ancient times, they were used to decorate churches, buildings and homes in many different cultures. However, tapestries have undergone improvements over time and now they can be used in many unique and different ways.

As their name suggests, wall tapestries are meant to be hung on the wall. And due to their flexibility, there are several ways on how to do so. Depending on your personal preferences, here are six tips you should follow when hanging a wall tapestry.

Image by Thanks for your Like • donations welcome from Pixabay

    Use nails and pushpins

The easiest way to hang a wall tapestry is by using a hammer and nails. In fact, it is the most commonly used method if you are hanging a larger weave that isn’t too heavy. This will further prevent the making of holes in the piece.

All you have to do is nail the tapestry in one corner and then position the second nail depending on how much drape you want in the final look of the fabric. In other words, if you are looking for a more extended look, then the nails should be spaced further apart. Or, if you are striving for a drapery look, then put the nails closer together.

Another solution for hanging a wall tapestry is using push pins especially if the wall hanging is thinner and lighter.

    Mount on a baseboard

If you have a larger, and especially heavier, tapestry, you can mount it on a wooden baseboard. This is because such wall hangings require more support and the baseboard will provide security and prevent the tapestry from falling.

For this method, you will need a wooden board cut according to your preference. The recommended way is to make the baseboard as big as the tapestry and mount it using a staple gun. Keep in mind that the wooden board also needs to be secured using wall anchors.

Image by Tatyana Kazakova from Pixabay

    Hang from a rod

The rod method is referred to as the traditional way of hanging a wall tapestry. This is because tapestries may include a so-called “rod-pocket” on their backside. If your tapestry has this, then you don’t have to worry about designing one because you can slide a rod inside the casing.

However, if your tapestry doesn’t have a rod-pocket, then you can sew one in. All you need to do is to cut out a piece of old, sturdy fabric and sew it on the upper backside of the tapestry where you can slide the rod in.

If you want you can create your own decorative rods with rod finials to extend beyond the tapestry and add more visual interest to the wall hanging.

    Opt for a frame

If you have a rather small or fragile tapestry, then the best option for you is to frame it. This way it will be protected and make your living space more charming and elegant.

Because tapestries usually come in different sizes and shapes, you may not always find a frame with the same dimensions. You may need to have a custom-made frame in order to match your tapestry.

In addition to this, there are a few things you must do before framing your tapestry. First, make sure you iron it to get rid of any wrinkles so it will look seamlessly perfect when hung on the wall. Also, add small adhesives on the back to keep the tapestry from bunching in the frame.

    Velcro strips

Velcro strips are the best option especially for lighter tapestries if you are looking for a neater look of your wall hanging. This method is especially useful if you are living in a rental apartment and you want to avoid making holes in the wall.

In order to do this method successfully, you have to measure the tapestry first and mark the dimensions on the wall where you want to hang it. Then, attach the strips on the back of the tapestry as well as on the wall.

If the wall hanging is a bit larger, then you can add extra strips in the middle in order to provide more security. Make sure all strips are fully set before hanging.

    Create a canopy

If you are looking for an innovative way of hanging your fabric, then you can create a tapestry canopy. You can do this by hanging your piece from the ceiling or draping it above your bed to create an intimate sitting area.

In order to do this, first, you need to attach the tapestry on the ceiling using any of the methods described earlier. Make sure the tapestry is light and thin so it won’t fall off the ceiling. Then attach the middle of the wall hanging with a hook in order to create the canopy.

Depending on the style of your bed, there are many ways you can create a tapestry canopy. Choose the one that best fits your style and room decor.

    Final thoughts

Recently it seems like tapestries are becoming one of the most sought after wall art decorations that can easily spruce up any home interior. They are mostly used to cover plain walls but work perfectly if you are looking to add extra visual interest to your decor. They are also available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and styles accommodating every individual’s taste. So don’t wait any longer and choose a tapestry that will provide a nice decorative touch to your home. Use one of the methods to hang it and enjoy looking at this beautiful piece of art.

  • Making Sure You Choose the Right Person for Crawl Space Repair

Making Sure You Choose the Right Person for Crawl Space Repair

The crawl space under your home is an odd area, as it is a place that many people pay no attention to.

While we tend to spend a lot of time and even money on looking after the rest of the property, the crawl space is often a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. While it is natural for many people to do this, it can also be dangerous to ignore this space because of the impact it can have on your property, your health, and your life quality.

Image by Vignesh Murugan from Pixabay

The key reason you need to keep your eye on this space is in case any problems arise such as damage. Once damage does occur, it is important that you look for crawl space repair services so that work can be carried out to repair this. Failing to do this could have a huge negative impact on your crawl space as well as on your home. One thing you do need to do is ensure you choose the right person to carry out the work, and this is something we will look at in this article.

    Finding an Ideal Provider

It is very important to ensure you put some thought into the provider you choose for this type of work at your home. It can have an impact on the quality of the work, how efficiently it is done, how much it costs, and if it gets completed in a timely manner.

Imagine de Willi Heidelbach de la Pixabay

Looking at the experience levels of the provider is important, as this will give you more reassurance and means that you can benefit from expertise. If the provider has been carrying out crawl space repairs for some time, they will be used to the wide range of issues that can occur. This means that they can get the work done effectively, quickly, and to higher standards. You should make sure you consider past projects and the credentials of the company or person before you make your choice.

It is very important to ensure you find someone who is reliable and will turn up on time to get the work completed as arranged. On top of this, you want someone with an excellent reputation for services so that any issues can be dealt with quickly and efficiently. So, how can you learn more about this if you have never used a crawl space professional before? Well, one of the simplest solutions is to look at online reviews written by those who have already tried the provider for similar work at their homes.

Image by Geraldine Dukes from Pixabay

For most people, finances can be an issue and it is important to ensure you look at affordability when it comes to having repairs carried out on the crawl space. You should, therefore, make sure you look at the cost of the work when choosing the ideal provider for this type of repair.

These factors will make it easier for you to find the right person for the job.
