They come in different shapes, sizes and design options. Some installations need professional input while others can be executed as DIY projects.  Regardless, swimming pool installations require thorough planning. Here are a few things you need to do while planning for a new pool installation.

Decide on the Pool you Want.

There are primarily three swimming pool options; inground, semi-inground and above ground pools. Each option has a unique build and different construction requirements. Inground swimming pools, as the name suggests, are installed into the ground. The rim is at ground level. Above ground pools, on the other hand, are entirely above ground level. The pools include inflatable units, metal pools and traditional above ground pools. Both inground and above ground pools have pros and cons. However, semi-inground pools bring the best of both worlds. Once you settle on the pool you want, the rest of the planning is simple.

Budget

It’s important to have a clear budget before starting work on a new pool. Pools are not cheap, but a bit of financial planning can ensure you get the installation you desire. Two options are available for pools; prefabricated units and custom builds. Each has its financial implications. Prefabricated units are expensive to purchase but you save a lot on construction with this option. On the other hand, custom builds have high cumulative costs. These include labour costs, material costs and other installation overheads. However, the costs are modifiable depending on the design options you choose. A budget will guide you on which swimming pool option to settle on. Do not go for a pool that doesn’t fit your budget. You don’t want to make compromises that will destroy the final build.

Site Preparation

Part of planning for pool installations is site preparation. Inground pools require intensive site preparation. Council permits are also needed to carry out excavations. Prefabricated ingroundpools are designed to specific dimensions hence site preparations are done as per the manufacturer’s requirements. Semi-inground pools also require as much preparation as inground pools. On the other hand, above ground pools require minimal site preparation. Inflatable pools and metal pools do not need any preparation. However, traditional above ground pools need some preparation since they are semi-permanent.

Users

It’s important to keep the pool users in mind as you plan for installation. If you have children, you may need a shallow pool to maximize their experience and maintain safety. Adult users can safely use deeper pools. If you have a blend of users, you can make the go for a pool with a shallow end and a deep end. Unfortunately, most above ground pools do not offer such an option. Moreover, the proficiency of the users dictates whether or not you should install certain fixtures.
