6 Things To Consider While Designing Your Kitchen

Kitchens are the heart of a home because that is where the fuel for your body is brewed. Having a clean and organized kitchen means investing in your health. A kitchen should be comfortable, organized and aesthetically pleasing.

A lot has to be kept in mind while designing a kitchen; layout, storage space, cabinet style, seating capacity, countertops and what not! Transforming your kitchen is a consuming task in all regards – from money to mind to energy! While talking to kitchen remodelling experts at Kitchen Infinity, we found out that more than half of the people who go for kitchen remodelling under-estimate the costs because of lack of planning. In such cases, the stress can become macroscopic and what could have been a fun task can immediately turn into a stress rollercoaster!

To avoid that, here are some things that you should consider while designing your kitchen:

1. Plan The Layout

The layout of your kitchen depends how frequently and how you use your kitchen. If the kitchen is not designed to serve you, then what’s the point? Kitchen space, cabinet placing, refrigerator, pantry and appliances placement all contribute towards your kitchen layout. The layout should be smart, practical and one that serves you!

2. Avoid Corners And Tight Spaces

While designing the kitchen and floor plan keep in mind to avoid any corners especially while placing the kitchen door, stove, or cabinets. You don’t want to bump into a cabinet and door handle while cooking!

Sharp corners and edges on countertops are another no-no. Especially if you have children. There are a number of types of countertop edges to choose from which look classy and are safe. Design your kitchen in a way that it’s stylish yet safe.

3. Picking the Right Color

The color of the kitchen has to compliment the general aesthetic of the rest of the house. Colors provide a unique character to your space so the colors of the kitchen should be carefully chosen. If you have a small space, it is recommended to use lighter shades because darker colors would make it look more congested and small. Light colors and hues feel airy and the light reflections on light colors make the space appear bigger.

4. Setting Up The Electrical Points

There are several ways to place the electrical outlets in the kitchen like a normal outlet position, high outlet position, under cabinet, hidden kitchen island outlet or an under counter outlet strip. Hidden island outlets are especially helpful if you have children and don’t want them to hurt themselves while playing with electrical outlets.

Place the outlets where you plan to keep the appliances so you don’t have to carry around your toaster to the other end of the kitchen.

5. Keep The Aesthetic Uniform

We get it that you want to add different elements and everyone in your house has different preferences but it’s a kitchen, not a museum! Keep it coherent and follow only one sort of trend for your kitchen. If you put too many color combinations in your kitchen design or choose a different material for everything from the floor to the cabinets and countertops, it might look like you overdid it.

It’s recommended to keep the aesthetic of the kitchen uniform. Color contrast, backsplashes, countertops, cabinet colors, floor tiling, cabinet handles and door colors should all come together.

6. Designing The Floor

If you decide to go for tiles for the floor, choose the bigger ones! Bigger or medium sized tiles are easier to clean and look elegant. They also make the floor look wider. Also make sure that your floor compliments your countertops and doesn’t cancel its accent. Modern dark tiles with dark wood cabinets would just look out of place!
