We came across a mezzanine apartment that has been converted to a beautiful and interesting two-bedroom apartment of several inspiring details and we thought to share it with you to know what you think. The ingenious ‘Rubik-cube like’ solutions found for this residential space was imagined by London-based design-led practice Studio Verve Architects in accordance with the requirements of the client’s ambitious programmatic brief. Located on Bow Quarters, a beautiful seven-acre residential development set within a historic site of the con verted Bryant and May matchbox factory, the residence occupies a space summing up to 72 sqm and comes with a modern layout which provide a dramatic sequence of spatial experience within the walls and high industrial windows of the original factory.

The designers rethink the layout of the new apartment, so all the interiors were entirely gutted in order to take advantage of the high volume industrial space and fully utilize it. Besides striking combinations of materials with modern minimalist furnishing, the hotspot of this transformed mezzanine apartment is the timber fins wall that bisects the volume and separates the stairs from the lounge and dining space which continues with the kitchen zone.

The linearity of the timber fins not only give a touch of originality to the space, but also contrast well against the exposed brick walls of the original factory from the living room and the new oak flooring. The stairs leading one up to the mezzanine bedroom are also made of oak like the flooring and feature a framless glass balustrade overlooking  the dramatic double-height living room and dining room below. Very interesting is the idea of creating a concealed door within the fin wall that leads into the ground floor bathroom, bedroom and media utility. The cloak cabinet space and kitchen is separated from the main living by a full-height white bookshelf. What do you think? Does this apartment meet your idea of a modern lifestyle?
