Minimalism and Originality: Vessel Series from Decode

Vessel Series is a special and original limited edition imagined by designer Samuel Wilkinson in collaboration with master-glassblower Stewart Hearn for London-based firm Decode. Consisting of three blown glass lighting fixtures inspired by a “ship in a bottle”, the hand-made nature of this edition embodies modern British design cleverly combining functionality and aesthetics. The eye-catching Samuel Wilkinson’s work is unique and ingenious due to cuts across individual angles creating attractive forms that seems to celebrate the bulb from a different perspective.

Which is very interesting to these lighting fixtures‘ shapes when the tinted glass is illuminated is that they were made specifically to show off not to conceal the flowing forms of the Plumen 001, a beauty in its own right. The chaos of the bulb is nice juxtapose to the minimalism of the glass, producing unexpected irregular reflection that appears holographic. Mouth blown tinted glass is available in either sepia, green or dark grey and the limited edition of Vessel Series includes only 20 products.

  • Innovative Construction Play Set Connects Parent and Childs

Innovative Construction Play Set Connects Parent and Childs

As parents you probably have often wondered how you can stimulate your children’s creativity and thinking at early ages. One way to do that is through such innovative construction play sets like the one we share with you today, which certainly encourage kids to think outside the square and imagine all kinds of creations, connecting  in the same time parent and childs in a new and interesting way.

Meant for kids aged four and up, Tikestix is a little tikes construction toy designed by Josh Finkle and Jake Foley in 2011, which allows kids to build endless number of works and even large play environments with very little money from parents. They are really attractive and were created to display colorful  and simple design with a versatile use.

Each innovative construction play set features plastic sturdy building pieces made in USA which of course fit little hands of your child and are meant to be used both indoors and outdoors. Kids get bored quickly with the same things, so choosing from a range of four different play sets  which are interchangeable is great for them. The sets offers several building suggestions, but, of course, the sky is the limit. They can expand their building possibilities in order to create forts, clubhouses, garages, airplanes, ships and more. Really fun great for their wild imagination, don’t you think?

  • Mezzanine Apartment Transformed into a Two-Bedroom One in London

Mezzanine Apartment Transformed into a Two-Bedroom One in London

We came across a mezzanine apartment that has been converted to a beautiful and interesting two-bedroom apartment of several inspiring details and we thought to share it with you to know what you think. The ingenious ‘Rubik-cube like’ solutions found for this residential space was imagined by London-based design-led practice Studio Verve Architects in accordance with the requirements of the client’s ambitious programmatic brief. Located on Bow Quarters, a beautiful seven-acre residential development set within a historic site of the con verted Bryant and May matchbox factory, the residence occupies a space summing up to 72 sqm and comes with a modern layout which provide a dramatic sequence of spatial experience within the walls and high industrial windows of the original factory.

The designers rethink the layout of the new apartment, so all the interiors were entirely gutted in order to take advantage of the high volume industrial space and fully utilize it. Besides striking combinations of materials with modern minimalist furnishing, the hotspot of this transformed mezzanine apartment is the timber fins wall that bisects the volume and separates the stairs from the lounge and dining space which continues with the kitchen zone.

The linearity of the timber fins not only give a touch of originality to the space, but also contrast well against the exposed brick walls of the original factory from the living room and the new oak flooring. The stairs leading one up to the mezzanine bedroom are also made of oak like the flooring and feature a framless glass balustrade overlooking  the dramatic double-height living room and dining room below. Very interesting is the idea of creating a concealed door within the fin wall that leads into the ground floor bathroom, bedroom and media utility. The cloak cabinet space and kitchen is separated from the main living by a full-height white bookshelf. What do you think? Does this apartment meet your idea of a modern lifestyle?
