Alvi Design Sustains Eco Friendly Living: Alvisilkchair

With a focus on creating furniture with eco-friendly materials and sustainable production methods, Swedish brand Alvi Design founded by Åsa Kärner sustains eco friendly living and therefore aims to design products with modern and functional design, art and handicraft from different cultures. We liked very much her unique way of interpreting the seating furniture and we wanted to share with you the eco-friendly Alvisilkchair design.

Presented at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011, Alvisilkchair captivates you from the very beginning with its beautiful and in the same time unusual shape for a chair, inspired by different sources who used these interlace techniques which liked the designer very much. Chosing to use materials with relatively low environmental impact like silk threads and oak to create it, Åsa Kärner gives a surprisingly dimension and transparent expression to its overall appearance.

Although thin in appearance, the silk thread is the strongest natural fiber and tightened around the bearing oak frame in that forms brings forth a perception of weightlessness in contrast to the rustic frame, while the light produces new shadow plays from the turquoise thread. With such amazing designs, we’re sure that more and more pleople will embrace an eco friendly living. What do you think?

Boomerang Wok by Nikolai Carels

We all know that not everybody posseses chefs’ techniques when preparing food, especially when stir-frying and turn ingredients and this things make you get frustrated sometimes. Boomerang Wok designed by Nikolai Carels designed for Dutch brand Royal VKB makes you forget about normal woks which aren’t good enough, if you don’t know how to handle them to turn ingredients correctly and they tend to end up next to the pan.

Apparently Boomerang wok is like any other wok you know: made of aluminium, Teflon, with a plastic handle. But a closer look reveals a unique, patented cupped edge at the front, which makes your cooking process easier than before by preventing food spilling out of the pan. It lets you toss the food with a flick of the wrist, only to return safely into the pan’s center. Moreover, this interesting wok help you turn easier even the larger pieces of food, such as a fillet of fish or meat. Available in three models (warm grey, dark grey and tri-ply), Boomerang wok is suitable for all heat sources. So, if you love stir-frying your food while reducing possible mess, we think this product is a perfect choice.

Fish House by Guz Architects

Located in Singapore, Fish House is a phenomenal seafront house designed by Guz Architects. Like all their stunning projects which embody their vision of creating refreshing architecture with sustainable design technologies, Fish House is a luxurious residence which embraces an exquisite modern and environmentaly friendly design, giving their residents the opportunity to live comfortably and in harmony with nature.

Occupying a total area of 726 square feet, the residence is a dream house, perfect for Singapore’s tropical climate- hot and humid: natural surroundings, interiors with open, breezy space, connected to the outdoor terrace and a large swimming pool, high-tech features. The architects aimed at keeping the plan and spaces as open as possible in order to integrate them with nature encouraging natural air ventilation. Almost every corner in this amazing house benefits from spectacular panoramic views of the ocean thanks to large windows that replace walls. Its spacious interiors display modern and simple, yet luxurious design with wooden high ceilings layout and eye-catching details that intend to keep the rooms airy and with more free space. It’s like living outdoors. The bedroom has open toilet, bath and a view of the garden.

Fish House is expended with an amazing swimming pool surrounding the entire house which gives a fresh holiday feel. It has a generous deck which provides enough space for lounge chairs and covered area for entertainment. The idea of nature connection is reinforced by having the basement level media-room with a u-shaped acrylic window which allows diffuse natural light in and also views out into the pool. What a great feeling being underwater and without getting wet while relaxing in front of your favourite movies. Ocean waves-shaped roof with grass offers residents another outdoor leisure space. Besides that, it’s almost totally covered by this photovoltaic panels supplying enough energy to the house.

Create Your Dream LA Penthouse Bedroom… Wherever You Are

A designer bedroom can become a gorgeous space within your home, a haven that is a pleasure to spend time in. Nothing says LA-style interiors more than a well thought out, minimalist bedroom with the penthouse apartment feel that is favoured by movie moguls and wealthy executives. It sounds like it should be expensive and time-consuming to create, but if you focus on getting the key aspects right, it is straightforward to gain your own piece of penthouse glamour.

Rid yourself of any dark, heavy curtains and replace them with white muslin, with wooden blinds for night-time, to ensure that the light streams in unfettered to bounce off walls that are painted in a light, neutral colour. This will further emphasise the room’s most airy aspects.

As to further décor, the focus should definitely be on minimalism. Fuss and clutter are a no-no, so concentrate on the key pieces. Start with the most important piece of all – the bed. A super-stylish leather bed is a desirable modern feature that will elevate your bedroom onto a whole new level. With those in place you will have transformed an ordinary bedroom into your very own LA-style pad, minus the shocking price tag – simply divine.
