The Durability

An incredibly important aspect to take into consideration when buying a boiler, especially for the first time, is the durability of the unit. As it is with most products these days, you can find incredibly cheap options as well as really expensive ones with very little middle ground between them. However, when it comes to boilers, you might not want to try to save your money.

Generally, when it comes to boilers, the cheaper models tend to be less durable. This can be a bit of a problem in the long run, since you’ll have to end up spending money on repairs or replacing the entire unit. What you are going to have to do is consider if saving money in the short term is better than saving money on repairs or replacements in the long term.

Boiler Types

The next thing that you are going to have to look for when buying a boiler would be which boiler type you need. When it comes to boilers, they are three major different types of boilers; the combination boiler, system boiler, and regular boiler. Not only are the boilers different in size, but they are also different in electricity consumption.

System boilers are the best type of boiler to use if you are living in a large household that frequently uses water or a household that has two or more bathrooms. This is because system boilers store water in tanks rather than heating it, which means that it’s instant access to large amounts of hot water. Combi boilers are more suited for households that have less than two bathrooms, since the water is taken directly from the mains and heated up instantly, and if you want to find out which are the best system boilers on the market check out Heating Wise. Regular boilers or heat-only boilers are typically found in older houses. In addition to being one of the oldest types of boilers, they are also one of the largest since in addition to having a water tank for hot water, they need another tank for cold water to draw from so the water doesn’t come from the mains.

Warranties

Another thing that you’ll have to look for when buying a boiler for the first time, would be the warranty that is offered with the unit. As mentioned above, the cost of the boiler is very important as it will determine the durability or quality, which in turn will give you an estimation of how often repairs will need to be done.

Having said that, if you have bought a really expensive boiler, you should expect the warranty to cover a few years, since the repairs or the replacement of the boiler will likely be expensive. On the side of the coin, if you have purchased a cheap boiler then the warranty will most likely only be one here, meaning that after a year if that boiler breaks, which it will, you will have to replace it from your pocket.

Electricity Consumption

Another important factor that you’ll need to consider when buying a boiler for the first time would be the energy rating that the unit has. Almost every electrical appliance that is being manufactured today has an energy rating sticker that can be found on it. These energy ratings indicate how much electricity the boiler will be using.

As a rule of thumb, cheaper boilers will most likely have a bad energy rating, meaning they will use more electricity. The decision that you’ll have to make is whether you will compromise in the short term by saving money on the actual boiler and spending quite a lot on energy consumption costs every month.
