Protect Your Home with a Security Fence

A security fence can be a wise investment for your home or business as it not only offers protection, but it also enhances the value of your property. The increased value starts from the fact that your property is not only there to provide protection, but it also helps in adding a sort of esthetic value and appeal to your home. Your fence can be made out of different materials and have various designs which add a function and form to it. Pool fencing is that more step taken to ensure the protection of your child and the members in your house.

    Options to Consider

There are various kinds of security fences that you can take into account.

    • Metal welded wire fences
    • Palisades fence
    • Chain link fence

The styles are different and the same thing can also be said about their appearance. The latter is also a major determinant when it comes to their selection. Welded mesh fencing was developed in Europe and has become so popular that now it has replaced the chain link fences.

    Choosing a Security Fence

Pay attention to the following factors:

    • Choose strong and dependable material so that the fence cannot be easily broken
    • Choose the right height for the fence to prevent climbing
    • Choose the style of fence such as ornamental iron fence for better privacy and less visibility
    • Select gates which can be locked in the night or when you are not home
    • Always ensure that you do the maintenance of your fence after a year, check with possible damages and select the right type of security fence

You need to get permission from the local authorities to install the security fences and make your home secure.

Process of Installation of Security Fence

Installing the security fences cannot be done in isolation as it requires the help of a professional. Since the border is being shared, it is good to consult with your neighbor. The color and elegance of the fence should match with the surrounding terrain, and style or color of any of the existing structures. Select the ingredients carefully to make sure that your premise is protected.

Wire mesh is a great choice when it comes to choosing a security fence other than the chain link fence as it offers better security. Wire and chain link fences can be furnished with anti-climb and anti-cut features that make them almost impenetrable. Generally these parameters established around high security prisons, airports, power plants, railroads and institutes that are important to the nation’s infrastructure. Wire mesh fencing offers better visibility and can prove to be a smart choice when considering the different kinds of security fences.

Wire mesh fences have robust construction since they were originally designed for using in prisons. They have welded joints that make them solid and quite tough to breach. Their popularity has increased to a great extent over the last few years because these provide cost effective methods of safety. If they are used as a security fence, they are less expensive and a lot more versatile since they can be used in a wide range of applications.

    Importance of Security Fences

Security fencing has a variety of uses and can also be used to keep out the intruders. There are rules in certain areas governing the use of these fences. Homes or buildings that contain swimming pools should build the fences according to the regulations since the fencing not only protects, but also offers safety to the residents. An important consideration for installing the fences is their structural durability. Thus, you must know the types of fences and choose what is appropriate for your place. The fence needs to be built to last for a long time. It should offer comfort, safety and protection and should also make you feel totally confident.

5 Smart Money Moves for Home Improvement

We all love a home that looks nice, as it makes us feel nice, doesn’t it?

Photo by Josephine Baran on Unsplash

It doesn’t matter if you live in a studio apartment or a prestigious country manor, having a pleasantly decorated and styled home with attractive furniture and appliances is great. However, it’s even better when they don’t cost an arm and a leg.

As much as we would all like to have the perfectly fashioned home, the chances are we won’t quite be able to afford those $19,000 Coffee Makers that we’d really like in our kitchens. (Seriously, $19k for an espresso machine. Some people have too much money.) What we can do though, is make smart decisions when it comes to decorating and/or filling our homes; save ourselves some money and end up with an abode that you just love coming home to.

    Start smart

Is there a better place to start than the beginning? No. Now, pointless questions aside, it is vital to get off on the strongest foot possible when it comes to redecorating your home – whether it be a full scale remodel or just introducing some new appliances or furniture to the habitat you call home. In order to do this, you need a plan. And part of your plan will be a budget. As simple as it sounds, it can be the catalyst for a successful venture into home decorating. If you have a budget in place before you even start looking at new floors, or curtains, or crockpots, then your life is going to be a lot easier. If you know what you want and need for the makeover, then you won’t overspend on ‘this’, leaving you short when it comes to buying ‘that’. A good plan is essential to any endeavors, and home improvements are no different.

Photo by Edgar Castrejon on Unsplash

Any excuse to buy a new crockpot

    stay smart

Assuming you have taken my first piece of advice and have started your home improvement mission smartly, what you need to do now is continue in this fashion. With your budget in place, you now need to make sure you know: What you’re doing; When you’re doing it and most importantly; How you’re doing it. The last one applies especially to men. That’s right, we are inherently unable to admit that sometimes we may, and I stress may, need help when it comes to building a new wardrobe (damn you Ikea!) If you have a shiny new addition to your household that needs assembling, make sure you know what you are doing with it. If you don’t, and you manage to mess it up, then it may end up costing you more than you had originally planned. This will in turn mess up your budget, and that will in turn just undermine everything that I am trying to do here! Instructions are there for a reason.

This doesn’t just apply to new, non-assembled furniture. It also applies if you’re having a go at restoring an older piece of furniture. This is something that I will always recommend; as not only can it save you money, but I personally believe that older furniture is the best furniture. It comes from the days when men were men and trees were trees and furniture was made with character and intent. A properly restored old piece could end up being the highlight of your possessions, so make sure you do it properly. There are many online guides out there that can help walk you through a restoration process, so you’ve got no excuse at ruining a lovely piece of furniture.

I’d take this over an Arkelstorp any day!

    Shop Smart

If you unfortunately don’t have access to a load of old furniture, then the chances are you will have to do some shopping around for some new items. And this obviously goes for other things such as appliances or textiles. The trick here is to find quality goods for low prices; however many people might say that this is easier said than done. I am no one of those people. If you know where to look, then it certainly is easy enough to find value for what you’re looking for. You might be drawn to the larger suppliers, the ones that society tells you to be drawn to. While I won’t argue that these guys don’t offer value for money, I will argue that you can nearly always find a better price using the magic of the internet. Now, I’m going to assume that you are familiar with the internet as, well, you’re reading this aren’t you? Googling ‘chrome kettle’ and click on the first result and buying it from them is one route to go, but I’d put good money on you finding a cheaper option just by looking through results for a while. The first result might in fact be the best value, but at least you know for sure.

Another method that I’ve found works particularly well in finding bargains is by regularly checking price forum type sites. These are sites where people do the work for you, and post deals that certain companies might be holding at the moment for a particular item or range of items. You might not find what you’re looking for, much like Bono, but you never know what you might come across in these bargain laden sites. My favorite such site is Dealhacker, which is great for electronics and appliance needs for your home improvements. Though, be careful, do not spend for the sake of spending, it’s easy done, so don’t get drawn in.

This can be your best friend

    Snaffle Smart

‘Snaffle’ you ask? This is a very important term for this article, do you know why? Because I wanted to keep all the sub headings as alliterations and ‘snaffle’ is a synonym for ‘borrow’ that begins with S. Not everyone will be taking out home improvement loans in order to get their homes up to personal scratch, but a lot will be, I did. It was part of my budget and again assuming that you took my first piece of advice, it could be part of yours. The problem with borrowing though is, much like shopping, we immediately go to the most ‘famous’ lenders or comparison sites. And again, I’m sure they do have a lot to offer, but if we just dig a little deeper (this would appear to be a recurring theme in this article) you can find something that is ideal for your needs and wants.

My recommendation is to stay away from the comparison sites. What you generally get from these sites are the cheapest options…at the moment. But, they might not be so cheap down the line. Hidden costs and rate inflation are common and can cause you serious problems in the future. Instead delve into sites such as Money Facts and read up on lenders and suppliers, find out which are the best options and make an informed decision. These guys don’t actually sell anything, they just provide the facts. The Money Facts! They even give out little badges of honor so to speak: here’s an example of their loans badge for example, so now you know what they look like, so no excuses! If you see a product with such an endorsement, then they are more than likely one of your best choices. Borrowing money is a delicate operation; make sure you’re doing it properly.

Whatever you do, don’t go anywhere near these guys!

    Save Smart

Now, this last section may be the most important thing you read today. It might not be, but I’d like to hope it is. One of the biggest wastes of money around the home, is your home itself. There are so many ways that you can cut costs from every day things, that you can in turn invest back into your home and maybe one day afford that $19,000 coffee maker ($19,000! I still can’t believe it!) Starting with heat loss. A lot of energy is wasted, and in turn a lot of money wasted through heat loss every year. This can be fixed by proper insulation or even just simple draught excluders or a nice big pair of thick curtains! You’d be surprised how much you could save just by doing this.

Then come your appliances. If you are splashing out on new appliances in your kitchen for example, make sure you’re going to get most bang for your buck for them. Appliances that carry the Energy Star badge of honor (we love a badge of honor) are your best bet here. These appliances are the money energy efficient and will save you money in the long run, so you should definitely consider them. There are a wide range of appliances that carry the Energy Star out there; you’re bound to find exactly what you’re looking for, unlike Bono. Eco-Friendly Updates are not only good for the environment, but good for the wallet. You can’t argue with that!

  • Surfin Bird, a Lovely Birdhouse by dreikant

Surfin Bird, a Lovely Birdhouse by dreikant

Here’s something cute for our bird friends. German designers from dreikant called it Surfin Bird and we find the product very interesting both from functional and aesthetic perspective. This birdhouse design is special just by the simplicity it displays, and the combination of wood and metal. Available in five different RAL colors or plain steel, the Surfin Bird easily draw attention because of the small nest box supported by that very tall legs which make it very funny too.

The wooden housing offers shelter and provides safety for the breed during the spring and summer season, while during winter time the nest box turns into an open feeding ground by simply removing the wooden part. This possibility of separating the two parts makes the cleaning of the inner housing no big deal as it can also be taken out the metal frame easily. A bird fat ball or similar food can be hung up easily just by attaching a strong magnet hook. All pieces of the birdhouse are being treated with wood oil in order to retain the beautiful natural wooden look. Below are some pictures with Surfin Bird. How do you find them?

  • Unique Sustainable Flower Pot that Glows at Night by Julie Storm for Nola

Unique Sustainable Flower Pot that Glows at Night by Julie Storm for Nola

For more than four decades, the principle of making comfortable, accessible outdoor designs has shaped the Swedish brand Nola. Studying the city center and the urban landscape for years allows them nowadays to deliver high quality products with award-winning designs for public projects and urban spaces. Scoop Moonlight Planter, we’re showing you in today’s post, was a great find a few days ago. It was designed by Julie Storm and belongs to Nola’s amazing outdoor furniture collection.

    Colorful-outdoor-flower-pots

With an eye-catching appearance, this flower pot seems at first glance like any other, a simple colorful planter in which flowers and other plants are placed in and displayed. But in fact, Scoop Moonlight Planter is very special and this thing is demonstrated by the 2013 Green Good Design Award it received, being mentioned as one of the most important examples of sustainable design in the world. Planters are designed to make both urban and indoor environments a little bit more beautiful, and a whole lot easier to live in, but the Scoop Moonlight has also been created to support a healthier living.

Unlike the standard flower pots, thanks to an integrated lighting unit, this colorful planter casts soft light over plants long after the sun has set, transforming flowers, stems and leaves into unique lighting features. This characteristic makes it equally striking during the day as it is at night, while bold colors give its simple shape big personality.

    Scoop-Moonlight-planter

Made from recycled plastic that is fade-resistant and weatherproof, the planter can be cleaned with soap and mild detergents created especially for plastic, or by a pressurised water hose if used on a low pressure setting. Weightning 18 kg without plants inside and 100-120 kg with plants and compost inside, Scoop Moonlight itself is fully assembled and comes in various bright colors such as yellow, orange, red, lilac, light yellow, lime green, grey, black, granite and sand. Nothing like a planter that works just as well inside as it does outside!

  • CRYSTAL – Smart Interactive Light Installation with Hundreds LED Rocks

CRYSTAL – Smart Interactive Light Installation with Hundreds LED Rocks

Visitors of the LEXUS Hybrid Art exhibition in Morcow, Russia, had the possibility to see this beautiful and intriguing CRYSTAL artwork and play with light untill 22 August. We decided to share with you guys this amazing project because, like all the other projects ranging from fashion to architecture envisioned by Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde, this one also explores the dynamic relation between technology, people and architecture. CRYSTAL is a smart interactive installation with a spacey design thanks to small luminous rocks that instinctively interact with movement.

    Crystal-by-Studio-Roosegaarde

Seven-hundred LED rocks (variable sizes), that are wirelessly charged via a power mat are designed to create a sensual relation between people, light and technology. This unique site-specific installation  is like a “digital campfire”, where people can share their stories of light in a very public way. Every time they interact with the small LED rocks, they light up, looking like the new Lego from Mars, as Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde said. The crystals can be added, moved or shared by visitors keeping them curious through their ever changing lighting behaviour from ‘excited’ to ‘bored’. Great interactive design for events or architecture! Check out also the other remarkable works of Studio Roosegaarde.

  • High-Tech Giant Umbrellas Improve Al-Masjid al-Nabawī Mosque’s Natural Micro-Climate

    High-Tech Giant Umbrellas Improve Al-Masjid al-Nabawī Mosque’s Natural Micro-Climate

Located in Al Madinah, Saudi Arabia, Al-Masjid al-Nabawī is one of the largest mosque in the world, the Islam’s second-holiest mosque built by the Prophet Mohammed. Over the centuries, Al-Masjid al-Nabawī was enlarged, though it couldn’t kept pace with the increasing swell of Hajj pilgrims who gather each year in its courtyards. Millions of pilgrims congregate in the two interior courts belonging to both the old mosque and the new, traditionally designed buildings in Medina al-Munawwarah.

    Umbrellas-design

Just imagine a little bit how it looks like its surrounding area when the  time of pilgrimage  arrives. Although in recent years the traditional time of pilgrimage has been in the cooler fall and winter months, this period is changing progressively according to the lunar calendar and the summer months when temperatures are extremely high returns, exceeding 120 degrees F. These marble-floored spaces can be punishing for those millions of pilgrims who gather here, so these open plazas had to be efficiently climatized.

To such an exceptional situation, there had to be an exceptional solution and German designers, SL-Rasch, in collaboration with SEFAR Architecture came up with an ingenious way that improved the mosque’s natural micro-climate without destroying its architectural character. In November 2010, they completed the plantation of a forest of  giant foldable sunshades, each being almost 20 meters tall. They were the largest umbrellas built up to that time and are really something unseen. The members of the Medina Haram Piazza project, as it was named, include general contractor Saudi Binladin Group (SBG), customer Saudi Arabian Ministry of Finance, architect SL-Rasch, German umbrella manufacturer Liebherr and Japanese manufacturer Taiyo Kogyo.

    Huge-umbrellas

The stunning umbrellas work together to constitute the convertible shading roof of either of the mosque’s courts, having a total of 143,000 m2, which is larger than the floor area of the mosque itself. To have the expected result and provide pilgrims with optimal shade and environment, the high tech sunscreens are made of a special material named PTFE fabric, which satisfies the rigorous standards required by the customer and resist the aggressive UV radiation. Besides that,  the material has an extremely high tensile strength owing to wind load, colorfastness, fire resistance, maximum flexibility,  as well as effective shading and appropriate light transmission.

Regarding the light that passes through them, this extra tough PTFE fabric is a sand-colored one due to some good reasons. Additionally, the umbrellas feature elegant columns and oriental patterns made from blue PTFE ribbons, applied to the underside of the umbrella. The result of this solution? The ambient temperature created by the transclucent sunshades was decreased with at least 8 °C.  Like blooming flowers, they all are programmed to open and close simultaneously in minutely delayed sequence to avoid collision between their moving parts. This procedure takes three minutes, offering a fascinating scene to watch.

  • Foldable Roof System for the HVB Forum by the SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric

Foldable Roof System for the HVB Forum by the SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric

Over a century, the HVB Forum, which is located in the heart of Munich, Germany, was the place of banks and financial institutions, but now it is a fashionable place with an open air atrium, where are held business events.

This challenging and futuristic change was possible because of the work of SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric. The HVB Forum concept was completed in 2006, and the group included architects like Guido Canali and Gilberto Botti, Munich, Germany and engineer/fabricator Clauss Markisen Projekt GmbH, Bissingen, Germany.
The main point of the Forum is the atrium place. Here, the owner wanted to keep the natural light which is entering only from the opening above.

    Large-convertible-roof

So the SEFAR® Architecture TENARA® Fabric solution, creates a comfortable, modern, unique and safe space that can cover on a bad weather and be open-air when the weather is lovely, being a nice retractable, folding roof system. This lovely roof covers the 3,400-square-foot courtyard and facilitates light transmission. The secret which strengthens this roof consists of the material that they used to built this incredible folding and flexibility roof. The material was a high-strength expanded Fluor polymer woven, and it is Fluor polymer-coated. This material is the best because it will keep apart the mildew, while stored and it will not crack it. Also, this foldable roof system allows 38% light transmission so that all the sun light comes in the courtyard and surrounding office windows.

The HBV Forum is a place where the past and modern building design is combined so beautiful, and the roofs provide a nice and advanced utility with protection from inclement weather and visual appeal.
