In an age when virtual environments have become a natural progression to most businesses, the physical office tends to take a back seat to things. It takes a back seat in terms of planning and design. But therein lies the danger because when your organisation fails to consider the office’s interior design, business plan goals and objectives might fall short of results.

It turns out that your office design has a way of creating value for your business in two ways: one, it improves finances, and two, it can boost employee effectiveness. By focusing on the interior design of your office, you could prevent costly staff turnover, maximise the use of limited space, thereby improving operations, and in a more significant way, improve client perception of your company.

Overall, the appropriate office design could enhance business performance in multiple ways.

But rethinking your office design is not just about changing, for instance, workstation office furniture to something that’s a bit more colourful or creative. Yes, it is important to make the office look attractive and contemporary. But using your office space to put your business plan into action goes beyond the form.

To gain maximum value from your business accommodation in Northampton, you need to consider it right down to the floor plan because part of improving productivity and profits through office design is making sure that the space allows for increased networking, collaboration, and workflow that integrates the expertise of employees. With the right design, you’ll be able to see meaningful changes in the actual performance of employees, and the company as a whole.

Some offices tend to be planned out and designed in a way that makes tasks so routine and sometimes, counterproductive. Such an environment could lead to several problems, including frequent absences and interruptions to work. When left unchecked, this could also create employee turnover that could cripple your business plan.

So while there is a need to make your office look appealing, you should not neglect the fact that it also has to be functional, too. By hiring an office design fit out firm, you can achieve both form and function. With a design firm that does offices, you not only get the right furniture, the right floor plan; you get the right lighting, materials, and other details that create a business setting that meets clients’ and workers’ needs.

When you do more than just get new reception office furniture to update the space and actually invest in a customised design for your company, you’ll find that business will improve.

  • Creating a Utopian Bathroom with Futuristic Designs

Creating a Utopian Bathroom with Futuristic Designs

Harmonious, perfect society, since Thomas Moore until today, stayed only a part of fiction. But does it have to be? Maybe our community is far from it, but once you escape to your home, and fill your tub with bath salts and surround yourself with candles, you are actually not that far from perfection. If you are ready to make a step forward into the future and follow the trends that actually go after the development of technology itself, there are a couple of interesting ideas that you can incorporate in your bathroom, if you are a real tech-freak, and in love with everything that is new and different.

    Curved Sensor Sinks

Not something you can see every day, but that is the beauty of it. Forget about old fashioned, oval and square sinks, but be original, and be different. White spiral stand combined with minimalistic bathroom tapware really gives your bathroom that futuristic look you have wanted for some time now. It might seem a bit cold and sterile, even to those who are clean geeks, so you can always add some toiletries in color to perk up a space a bit, and give it a little warmth.

    Color Indication

How many times have you put your hand under the water leaking from the tap and got unpleasantly surprised? Well if you install the new fancy sink with the color indicator, you can avoid this from happening ever again. Once the water starts pouring, blue or red colored light starts glowing and it shows you just what you can expect.

    Neon Shower

And what kind of future would it be without neon lights filling the room? But to be completely original, do not only install new light bulbs, but rather go for a square rainfall showerhead that also enlightens the room with neon green, yellow, or any other color you might like.2

    A Bathroom that Sings

Up until now you have probably developed a habit of taking your Smartphone with you to the bathroom, so that you can listen to your favorite music while you are having one of those long relaxing showers. But now, smart bathrooms are the future and you do not need to do that anymore, as you can install a waterproof mp3 player or a radio right in there with you, and sing and dance while the hot shower is bringing you back to life. This way you do not need to worry if you are in the shower, already got yourself wet, and realized only then that you have forgotten to bring your music in there with you.3

    Self-cleaning Toilet

Everybody hates cleaning their bathrooms, especially when it comes to toilet bowl. The bad news is that no matter what, you will still need to do it from time to time, but to minimize the amount of bacteria, and the number of times in a month you actually have to do it, a good idea would be to install a self-cleaning toilet board. Thanks to a sensor it has, it detects when you are finished using it, flushes the water by itself, and starts turning the board and cleaning it.

Do not be afraid to experiment, as the bathroom of tomorrow is not only eye-pleasing, but it is also quite practical, and in a modern world that we live in, practicality is of outmost importance.

  • Choosing the Right shower Tile

    Choosing the Right shower Tile

Re-doing your shower? Your decisions about tiles will be the most important ones you make. Your tiles define the whole bathroom, determine your cleaning schedule, and even affect how long you have until you need your next renovation. Here are some tips to get the best shower possible.

    shower_tile

    1. Larger Tiles When Possible

Larger tiles have less grout, meaning they will last longer and are easier to clean. That said, there are lots of times when larger tiles won’t work for you. On curves, including on steam shower ceilings, small tiles will look a lot better as they create smoother lines. Also, in small bathrooms, tiles that are too large can emphasize the tininess of the space.

Finally, when tiling the floor of a shower, it can be safer to use smaller tiles, as they provide better traction. If you plan to age in your home or have elderly relatives, this can be the best option.

Still, try to use the biggest tiles possible, under the circumstances.

    1. Ceramics That Look Like Stone

Stone tiles are beautiful, but are really cold, quite expensive, and a pain to maintain. The good news is that lots of companies make ceramic tiles that look very similar. Far from being obvious duplicates, these tiles have a charm all their own.

As an added benefit, ceramic tiles have greater traction than stone. Therefore, they make a safer option for shower floors.

    1. For Walls, Choose Smooth Instead of Rough

Shower walls made out of stone look best when the rough side faces outwards… at first. As time goes on, minerals from the water build up in the crevices, creating ugly salty-white deposits. This can also make it very difficult to clean the dirt from the shower walls. Keep the shower smooth and save the rough tile for feature walls on the other side of the bathroom.

    1. With Glass, Use Small and Coloured Tiles

Large glass tiles tend to show any moisture that leaks through the grout. Unless you are 100% confident in your sealing abilities, choose smaller and coloured glass tiles. These are one of the best advices given by home design consultants. Coloured glass tiles can add more visual complexity to an area and let you get away with a more eclectic color scheme.

    1. Price Out Tiles First Using a Tiling Calculator

Before heading to buy your tiles, estimate the cost to ensure it works with your budget. Check out this free tiling calculator to see how much each type of tile will run you. This will help prevent your renovation from going over budget.

  • How to Build a Laundry Room

How to Build a Laundry Room

Many handymen and women have the knowledge and skill to complete home renovations with ease, a laundry room is no exception for those with expertise in plumbing and electrical work. The major projects include the plumbing for portable washing machine and sink components, and installing a vent for the dryer. The most important thing to note are the building codes and safety components associated with the job.

This blog will walk you through the basics of laundry room installation and provide a list of needed materials to get started. Follow along before tackling it on your own!

For a total list of tools and materials, click here!

After getting up to speed on codes and regulations, some prep work is necessary prior to assembly. First, you want to ensure that the area is emptied out and cleaned up. Appropriate flooring should be installed or updated to ensure water resistance and load bearing. Next, inspect water lines and potential paths for electrical, plumbing, and ventilation. Once you know the space allowance and available pathways, measure your potential washer and dryer units to make sure they will fit. Check floor, wall, and ceiling clearance and mark necessary spaces for rough in.

Next, map out and dry fit all pipe runs. Horizontal pipes should slope toward drain line of ¼” per running foot. You want to mark where the existing drain lines are, so you can make all necessary fittings for washer, sink drain, and vent lines prior to cutting. Afterwards, you will prime, glue, and assemble parts of the pipe run. Remember to include a p-trap for sink and washer!

Before running the hot and cold water to the washer and sink, shut off the main supply. Choose the space that’s midway between your washer and sink and install tee fitting for each pipe. Additional hardware will be needed for finishing. Then, run your water supply to the washing machine box and shut off the valve.

For the dryer, you will need to install a 120/240V 4 prong wall outlet. Make sure to identify the requirements of your specific model and determine the length of electrical cable you need. You can then begin forming the connection between the dryer and electrical panel. You will need to designate a new breaker for the machine as well. Ensure power is off during all wiring for safety.

Your washer will require a GFCI receptacle for the electrical. The wiring is similar with the added benefit of a safety shut off in case the line shorts. Be sure to measure the length of the cord and wiring to install appropriately.

To ensure the proper transport of heat and moisture to the outside, in-house designers and  consultants will suggest you install the dryer vent next. Plan your dryer ventilation path and select non-combustible, non-corrosive metals for use. Strive for a direct path to the exterior of your home. In addition, it will need to exit a foot from the ground to prevent obstruction. Don’t forget about the exterior flapper, which will allow for proper airflow and prevent anything from entering your home at the site.

Now that your wiring, piping, and plumbing is complete, you can add the finishing touches like drywall, flooring, and a fresh coat of paint!

Once the finishing have set, place the washing machine in its space and attach the drain hose to the stand pipe, hot and cold water lines to the stop valves, and check for water flow. Repeat the process by placing the dryer in its place, connect the dryer outlet via metal elbow, and attach it to the ventilation system.

Finally, position your sink and any cabinets. Attach water lines and shut off valves.

When you are finished, check to see that everything is functional. Make sure to do a test load of laundry while you are home to watch for any errors that could cause flooding or fires. Remember, if anything becomes too complex to call a professional! It’s better to do the job right the first time!

  • Pros and Cons of Wooden Flooring in Your Bathroom

Pros and Cons of Wooden Flooring in Your Bathroom

Using wooden flooring throughout a home is a no-brainer for many homeowners.  The look and feel just add an element no other material can match, but issues can arise when wooden flooring is suggested for the bathroom.

You’ll find arguments on both sides of the coin when it comes to wooden flooring in the bathroom.  Your job is to carefully weigh your options and go over the pros and cons so you can make an educated choice.

    Wooden_Flooring

    Wood Flooring Options

If you are considering using wood for your bathroom flooring, it’s a good idea to get a handle on your options before you decide.  For the most part, using softer woods like pine and fir is frowned upon, because they have a tendency to absorb moisture, which bathrooms produce a lot of.  Some hardwood options you may want to consider include oak, cedar, teak, maple, cherry, walnut, hickory and ash.

    Wood Flooring Pros

Some of the pros of having wooden flooring in your bathroom here are the same as having it in any other room of your house.  You’ll be barefoot a lot of the time in the bathroom, and a wood floor is usually warmer and more comforting than tile.  The colour of a wood floor is also more inviting than the relative coldness of tile.

The look of wooden flooring in your bathroom can’t really be matched by any other material.  Just as wood floors look beautiful in the rest of the house, they also look beautiful in the bathroom.  Every plank of a hardwood floor tends to have its own personality, making you feel at one with nature.  Wood floors are also on their own when it comes to interior design, as they don’t follow the trends and whims of the industry.

    Wood Flooring Cons

Most of the cons that are part of having wooden flooring in your bathroom deal with the moisture aspect.  Wood will expand and plump and warp, and if you don’t apply a quality coating or finish to it after installation, you may be in for trouble.

If you nail your hardwood planks to the subfloor, there will be holes in the moisture barrier underneath, which will allow moisture to seep down inside when water inevitably splashes on the floor’s surface.  Using adhesives or click together wooden floors is a better way to go to prevent moisture issues.

Mold and mildew are also one of the cons of wood flooring, and the likelihood is much higher because of the humidity level inside the standard bathroom.  As you probably know, mold creates odours that are unpleasant and can also create serious health issues for members of your household.

    Check Your Warranty

If you’re intent on using wooden flooring in your bathroom, check the warranty to see if it still applies for a  bathroom installation that requires quality bathroom accessories.  With some brands and styles, the warrant is voided if you install it in an environment where high moisture and humidity exist, like a bathroom exhaust fans with light and heater.

Make sure you use bath mats where possible, clean up spills as soon as possible and use a finish that repels water and keeps your floor safe.
