Fabio Novembre’s Chairs Impresses with Creative Design

Looking at the Italian architect and designer Fabio Novembre‘s portofolio we must say that he’s probably one of the most original and remarkable talents of international design. You will understand why we say that by having a look to one of he’s latest work – 36h and 56h Chairs. When we saw them for the first time, we didn’t realize what they were because of their really unusual design, which doesn’t make you think at some seats. But yes, they are indeed some special chairs of the italian furniture manufacturer Driade 2012 previews.

Their originally looking design will certainly not go unnoticed in new homes: one is an easy chair resembling a throne, with a high backrest and a delicately curved seat, and the other one is a rocking chair. Inspired by elements of personal passions, background and life, Fabio Novembre’s chairs showcase a sinuous and ‘daydreamer’ shape given by an aluminum internal structure which is is upholstered with a plastic weaving at the exterior. We would be very curious to see how comfortable are these chairs. What do you think?

  • 10 Modern Interiors Featuring The Iconic Egg Chair

10 Modern Interiors Featuring The Iconic Egg Chair

Warm and inviting layered with geometric shapes, clean lines, simplicity and elements full of texture and interest, moden interiors are very popular in homes, offices and public spaces for decades. Their design is very simple and even minimal and some of the best-known examples of modern design are chairs. That’s why we want to share with you some beautiful modern interiors which have something in common and we’re sure you’ve guessed from the title: one of Arne Jacobsen’s most popular designs – the Egg™ chair. Although maybe not many of you know its history, we know for sure that very few of you haven’t seen so far this outstanding and innovative shape.

The famous Egg™ chair was designed by admired architect and designer Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas in the Royal Hotel, in Copenhagen and since then it has become synonymous with Danish furniture design throughout the world. The lounge is one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s total design because he was the first to use the new technique which assumed a strong foam inner shell underneath the upholstery.

The shell’s perfect shape that Jacobsen strove to find it guarantees a bit of privacy and calls for a modern and original design. With or without footstool, the Egg™ chair is ideal for public spaces as well as for the home and is built to last. There’s just something appealing about this unique design, that’s why we wanted to show you how impressive this chair is. Enjoy 10 beautiful and eye-catching modern interiors featuring this iconic furniture piece that we gathered for you, each one having a distinct atmosphere.

  • Amazing Unique Structure on Vancouver Skyline: Beach and Howe St

Amazing Unique Structure on Vancouver Skyline: Beach and Howe St

This stunning unique structure entitled Beach and Howe St. after on the corner of Howe & Beach next to the Granville Street Bridge in downtown Vancouver will be one of the fourth tallest buildings of the city. The proposal to create such a daring and world class project belongs to BIG, a Copenhagen and New York based group of architects, designers, builders and thinkers operating within the fields of architecture, urbanism, research and development, which was commisioned by Canada’s premier real estate developer Westbank. The idea that contemporary life constantly evolves and changes underlies the careful analysis which leads to BIG’s architecture, so every project they do aims to respond those future needs.

Beach and Howe St. is supposed to be 490-foot-tall, almost 350m shorter than famous Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifato make a comparison. The mixed-use 49-story tower with 600 residential units will have a spectacular futuristic architecture, which will be a new building typology to the Vancouver skyline forming “a dramatic gateway to downtown Vancouver that speaks to the emerging creative economy in the city” as Ian Gillespie, President at Westbank, said. The project’s main objectives are to optimize the conditions for its inhabitants in the air as well as on the street level and to enrich both the neighborhood and the Vancouver city by making them more creative, sustainable and affordable.

Its silhouette which reveals a unique structure isn’t randomly designed in this manner. Besides the beauty of its appearance which changes from every angle resembling a curtain being drawn aside and welcoming people as they enter the city from the bridge, the tower shapes after the urban complex conditions aiming to increase pedestrian activity and street life. A mixed-use urban village with three triangular blocks that feature intimately-scaled spaces for working, shopping, and leisure composes the building’s podium. This additional space transform the space under the Granville Bridge into a dynamic and iconic neighborhood hub with a variety of open and covered outdoor sites. Its important to mention that the project is based on the sustainability concept and will strive for for LEED Gold Certification.

  • Lotus Sculpture by Gerry Judah

    Lotus Sculpture by Gerry Judah

The Lotus Sculpture was this year’s car-themed structure for the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, held in the grounds of the Goodwood Estate in the English county of Sussex. By tradition, every year major car brands sponsor a centerpiece sculpture that captures the spirit and essence of that year’s chosen car maker. This time the new work for auto-enthused is a dynamic edifice to British manufacturer of sports and racing cars Lotus Cars, a centerpiece of epic proportions designed by artist and sculptor Gerry Judah. Having worked on sculptures for Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, Renault, Honda, Ford, Rolls-Royce, and Toyota since 1997, Gerry Judah’s creations for the Goodwood Festival of Speed are towers of horsepower.

Judah’s Lotus Sculpture walks a line between art, architecture and advertising. It’s an enourmous three dimensional artwork tied into the shape of a half-hitch, trefoil or knot, where six classic Lotus Formula 1 cars were driving on the continuously variable curve developable surface. The spectacular structure features flat sheet metal curves which makes it lightweight, extremely strong and a rigid thin-shell with 98% empty space inside it. In automobile terms this would be a monocoque body, a tribute to the legendary designer and Lotus founder Colin Chapman’s introduction of monocoque chassis construction to automobile racing.

  • Creative Chair Inspired by Human Spine

Creative Chair Inspired by Human Spine

We ran across this creative chair with a highly innovative design never before-seen that can add an original touch to any kitchen or dining room, being easily noticed among the other pieces of furniture. Imagined by Romanian designer Andrei Otet for Romanian Design exhibition in 2011, the Gravity Chair is a concept that is part of the gravity collection.

Its unique and modern design showcases a silhouette inspired by the human spine: curved overlapped shapes supported by a frame made of steel painted white which can’t be seen, making one believe that every piece floats. Thus, it’s created a very interesting optical illusion of floatation and fluctuation in absence of gravity. This creative chair can be made of white wood or translucent orange acrylic. Find this design as original and catchy as we do?

  • Small 32 Square-Meter Apartment Design Transformed by OnebyNine

Small 32 Square-Meter Apartment Design Transformed by OnebyNine

Polish designers Ewa Koter and Łukasz Wawrzeńczyk from the architecture studio OnebyNine embarked on the challenging task of remodeling a limited 32 sqm apartment design which lacks space and daylight. Situated in Hong Kong, China, the apartment was initially partitioned in multiple rooms which didn’t create at all the comfort and feeling of an open space. Completely rebuilt and redefined, the new space showcases a modern and minimalist design approach with a particular attention to detail, with reference to the standard European program without any compromise in comfort of living.

Maximizing the space and daylight in order to create a permanent circulation around the apartment meant getting rid of some of its existing walls and connecting directly the living space with the bedroom and both the kitchen and bathroom with the terrace area. To have comfortable and in the same time airy and functional spaces, the architects proposed a kitchen shared with the circulation corridor, large windows connections everywhere, even with the terrace- an extension of the apartment which has been converted into a garden terrace with tropical plants, bamboo and palms.

The bathroom was also enlarged so that an European size shower room with frosted window, a modern toilet and a sink could complement the new space which is beautifully highlighted with mosaic designs suggesting  the classic “Space Raiders” computer game characters which seems to be a kind of linking element, because if you’ve already observed it appears in the rest of the rooms too. Have a look at these inspirational images and don’t hesitate to express your opinion.
