  • 5 Reasons Why Descaling is Important

5 Reasons Why Descaling is Important

We need to descale boilers, cooling towers or even espresso machines to make sure scales and oxides does not accumulate and damage the equipment

Large Boilers and cooling towers are often filled with thick layers of oxides.

These oxides form at extreme temperature inside the boilers or cooling towers. If these thick layers are not removed soon, they can cause all sorts of hazards.

Photo by Crystal Kwok on Unsplash

We have heard reports of boilers exploding and causing serious damage. These explosions are caused by the thick oxide layers, which hamper the smooth function of the boilers. The best way to remove these oxide layers is by descaling.

    What Is Descaling

Descaling is the process of removing thick layers of oxides from the inner surface of boilers. The oxides that form inside boilers or cooling towers are calcium oxides, sodium oxides, and aluminium oxides. Apart from oxides, other materials formed are lime, mud, rust, water scale buildup and some non-soluble deposits. Descaling is used to remove these elements.

Descaling in boilers is classified into two groups. One is removing rust particles from a boiler’s radiator mechanism and primary heat exchanger. This is sometimes referred to as power flushing. The other process is to remove calcium deposits from a combi-boiler.

    How to Descale Boilers

The main procedure of descaling a boiler is using a descaling agent or chemical descale. The descaling agent is pumped through the heat exchanger unit of the boiler until the scales come off the boiler surface. A good example of a descaling agent would be hydrochloric acid.

It reacts with the alkaline carbonate compounds present in the scale. The portion of the scale turns into carbon dioxide gas which evaporates, and the rest of the scale turns into soluble salt.

The other method of descaling boilers is by replacing the whole heat exchanger and installing a new one. Although this is more expensive, it makes sure the boiler is in top condition. Descaling is also done for smaller projects. For instance, even your toilet might need descaling when too much calcium or lime accumulates in the toilet bowl.

If your household water is hard, then you may want to use a water softener or descaler to prevent lime and other minerals from depositing in your pipes. You can check out the plumber spot to find some high-quality water descalers and learn more about them.

    Why Should You Descale?

Beside removing the oxides and material attached to the surface, there are a few other benefits of descaling

    1. It Keeps the Object Functioning Properly

The main purpose of descaling is to remove any lime, rust or metal oxide build up. If scales accumulate, it will clog up the pipes, hindering the normal water flow.

If water does not flow properly, the pumps will push out even more water to bring it back to normal. And in most cases, the pipes are not able to handle this excessive water pressure and start to leak.

Worst-case scenario, the pipes might burst open and cause damage to the household, facility, or factory.

    2. Prevents Bacteria Growth

This problem mostly occurs in cooling towers as bacteria cannot live on extreme heat inside the boilers.

Because the temperature is low in cooling towers, it is often clogged with mud, algae and sludge. These mud and algae scales are the perfect environment for bacteria, especially Legionella bacteria. Descaling would remove these scales and prevent bacteria from infesting the cooling towers.

    3. Keeps the Entire Factory Safe

We mentioned before that due to scaling; the pipes get pressurized and burst open, causing the entire factory to shut down.

But that is not the only danger scales pose. If there are too many oxide scales, they become an insulator stuck between the water that flows through the pipe, and the inner surface of the boiler. And as insulators, they can heat up the materials and cause ruptures in the boiler.

If they are not descaled, they heat up more, and this leads to the whole boiler exploding.

    4. Reduces Energy Costs

With regular descaling there will hardly be any scales or rust. This will allow the heat exchanger to release the right amount of heat and the pumps do not need to work too hard to pump out water.

Because the machines are functioning properly and nothing is under pressure, it saves a lot of energy. This is why routine descaling is an absolute must for boilers and cooling agents.

    5. Increases the Lifespan of Boilers and Cooling Towers

After all the discussion, it should come to you as no surprise that descaling increases the lifespan of the boilers and cooling towers. If you descale routinely, they will function properly and will ensure the boilers and cooling towers last a long time before you need to change them completely.

    Should You Descale Yourself?

It completely depends on which item you need to descale. If it is some small item, such as a kettle, espresso machine, or a toilet bowl, then you can do it by yourself.

But if you wish to descale factory-grade boilers or cooling towers, then it is better to call for professionals because the descaling agents are acids, a simple error can be harmful for you. Since descaling is not something an average person does regularly, it is best to rely on professionals with enough experience.

For large factory boilers and cooling towers, you should descale it once every month to maximize their efficiency and lifespan.

    Final Thoughts

Descaling is necessary for equipment and machineries that work under constant heat exchange. Rust and other oxides can accumulate and damage the surface if not cleaned properly. So, call in the professionals for a routine descaling and also make sure they take proper safety precautions.

  • The Right Siding Choices to Give Life to Your New House

The Right Siding Choices to Give Life to Your New House

It is possible to mess up your new house’s beauty by the decisions you make on the materials for your exterior siding.

The siding to your house is as important as the building itself and it is the reason why homeowners don’t joke with it these days. Having loose or missing bricks, dirty glass surfaces, decaying wood surfaces or chipped vinyl paint will not give the right impression about your home. Making the right siding choices to give life to your new home depends on your preferences but you should know that it also depends on what you can afford.

It is one thing to make the choice of how you want the exterior of your house to look like but it is another thing to get it done to your taste. Getting the right contractors is another milestone to take care of. Wherever you are, you can always seek professional help from companies within your location which major in putting finishing touches to the exterior of your homes. For example, if you have a home in Kansas or Missouri, you can go online and search for any siding Kansas city company. There are a number of professional siding companies within the metropolis. Let us have a look at some right siding choices to give life to your new house.

    Engineered wood

Using normal wood for siding could look glamorous but then you will have the problem of doing regular upkeeps of the wood. This problem is what engineered wood seeks to correct. Engineered wood is eco-friendly and doesn’t require too much money for its maintenance. Natural wood which is the alternative wooden siding is very costly to maintain. The main disadvantage of using engineered wood though is the fact that it is prone to absorbing moisture. Moisture content in wood is the beginning of the destruction of that wood.

    Stucco

Stucco has a big advantage of being able to last for up to eighty years. It used to be in the form of a standard white-washed model but now, it has evolved from that to a full range of textures and colors. It does absorb water, yes but it also has the advantage of allowing such moisture to evaporate quickly. It is ideal for locations with normal precipitation. It won’t work for houses in rainy areas though. Getting the materials is not that cost-intensive but labor for this siding choice is a bit pricey. This is because stucco requires an application of three coats.

    Stone Veneer

The cost of labor for using stone veneers is on the low side unlike the labor for the installation of natural stone as siding materials. Manufactured stone veneer products have become very common as siding options in recent times. It is made from a mixture of portland cement, lightweight aggregate, and iron-oxide pigments. It creates an upscale decorative appearance for the home and it is a more natural option to using bricks as siding materials. It requires little maintenance and can fit in a rainy environment. The disadvantage is that the labor required for its installation is dear.

    Wood

One important thing to ask before going ahead to install wooden sidings is if the wood has got rot resistance. This is because any small amount of moisture getting into the siding will destroy it very fast. Some varieties of wood that can be used for siding are pine, spruce, cedar, redwood, and fir. You need to be aware of your region’s climate before choosing what type of wood you need. When the heat from the sun fades off the finish or moisture leads to molds growing on the wood, you can do proper maintenance by power washing, staining, and sealing the affected parts.

    Vinyl

Using vinyl as a siding material has a lot of advantages. It is insect-proof and it doesn’t have issues with a rainy environment because it doesn’t absorb moisture. It is also resistant to fading and practically not destructible no matter the circumstance. It is the cheapest material to install and it comes in a range of colors and designs. Regular maintenance of vinyl sidings is necessary to avoid an accumulation of mold and grime. Using Vinyl gives the exterior of your house a costly look.

The quality of exterior finishing of your home is very important just as the interior is. The exterior of your home is what needs to deal with the type of climate you have in your location. If the right siding choices are not made, then there is a probability that you will be spending money regularly maintaining it. Some of the siding options here have their pros and cons. Depending on your budget, you can make a good choice and give life to your new house.

  • How to layout and design the perfect waiting room for your clients

How to layout and design the perfect waiting room for your clients

Let’s be honest most people hate waiting rooms because they hate waiting. But it’s something they have to do sometimes; they have to wait to get in touch with the expert they want to discuss. The waiting room is the last thing that pops into someone’s mind when they think about a feel-good ambiance.

Put yourself in your clients’ shoes and try to remember how you felt the last time you were in a waiting room.

It’s easy to describe the average waiting room, it’s noisy, furnished with uncomfortable chairs, and the waiting line doesn’t seem to end before the closing hours. It’s a nightmare to be directed to one, but sadly most times, it’s a nightmare that comes true.

However, your waiting room doesn’t have to be this way and provide your clients with a negative experience. This article provides you with a couple of recommendations to consider when you layout and design a waiting room to make your clients feel welcomed and comfortable

When ideal waiting room has to be useful, easy, and fun. How can you develop it to feature these three characteristics?

    Tips to make it useful

    Bring in furniture

Business owners are always looking for ways to save money and often neglect the waiting room’s importance and compromise when purchasing furniture for this space. Even if in some cases, old is gold, this is not the case because your clients won’t appreciate spending time in a dusty room with outdated furniture items. Don’t expect them to wait patiently in a room where the furniture breaks and smells. The waiting area is always full of anxiety, and the furniture and decorations can intensify the feelings.

Create a cosy space with new, warm coloured, and soft seated furniture to make them feel more comfortable. Seats with arms are more comfortable and allow your guests to relax in the correct posture. Plan spacing and seating well, and treat the process as you’d create a space for your friends and family.

    Make the space useful

Your clients sacrifice their time to wait for you to see them and provide services. The secret to making them happy is to make them think they don’t lose their time while waiting for your services. Invest in laptops and tablets they can use to complete work-related tasks while away from the office or catch up with other activities. This positions your company as a business that understands your public’s needs and does its best to provide them with the best solutions.

When designing the headquarters, you should always plan the parking space dedicated to your clients because one aspect that is always making people lose time is the search for a free parking spot. Research reveals that drivers waste around 9 minutes searching for a parking place

    Tips to make it easy

    Hire a greeter

Plan your customer’s journey at your business office from when they enter the premises until they are away in their car. What happens when they first walk in? They may feel confused because they don’t know where the waiting room is and what steps they should follow. Many questions are going in their heads that can make them feel awkward or uncomfortable.

A greeter can welcome them the moment they enter the building, help them register, and guide them to where to sit. It can save your customers from stressing themselves and feeling anxious and make them feel welcomed and appreciated.

Let them know what to expect

Humans are curious beings, and this curiosity increases when they do something for the first time or have time to think about it. They need to know that you’ll serve them as soon as possible. Use a TV to display information about your services and the waiting list so they can know when they’re next. Informing them of how many people are in line lowers their anxiety levels. The Tv can also provide information regarding the place where they need to go when their turn comes.

    Tips to make it fun

    Create an enjoyable atmosphere

When designing the waiting room, your goal is to make it feel like a welcoming and entertaining place—display interesting artwork from local talents to distract the visitors and let them enjoy some creative pieces. And since we’re talking about creating a welcoming environment, choose some relaxing playlist because the research reports that 88% of people think music can elevate their mood. You can purchase the music from a library like Melody Loops that offers royalty-free music you can play in your waiting room.

    Provide them with refreshments

Make your visitors feel appreciated by offering them refreshments. Freshwater, tea, and coffee do the job most of the times. You don’t have to transform the waiting area into a bar or coffee shop, but a small thing as offering them free refreshments can make them feel welcomed. If you want to go the extra mile, collaborate with a local bakery to provide you with delicious patisserie goodies your clients can enjoy while waiting.

    Bring in technology

Most people have smartphones nowadays, meaning that their primary demand in a waiting room is a high-quality internet connection. Ensure that you provide them with easily accessible internet so they can use their devices to entertain themselves while waiting. The majority of your clients expect you to have Wi-Fi and charger boxes for a variety of devices. Power outlets aren’t enough because most people don’t carry charges with them. When it comes to the devices and tech facilities you offer to your clients, being innovative is the best approach.

    Final thoughts

The best way to create a welcoming waiting area is to put yourself in your visitors’ shoes. Try to identify the things you expect to get when you enter a similar space and have your employees provide you with feedback on what changes they would make. You can also ask your clients for suggestions to determine what their expectations are regarding this space.

Whether you’ve got your heart set on a wide, spanning decking area complete with all the trimmings, or a quaint little solo chill zone, a deck is the perfect solution for some laidback outdoor living.

When visualising or implementing your deck decoration, consider the following factors.

Alternatively, some nice patio benches, a sprawling garden sofa, or a hanging egg chair are some other stylish seating options that can really transform you deck into the ultimate relaxation station.

    A place for plants

Plant life looks great on any deck and really helps to create a vibrant, visually satisfying space. For many deck-dwellers, potted plants are a familiar favourite, as you can colour code your hanging or floor-standing pots with your other decorative decking furnishings.

    Family fun time

Consider your deck as just another space for you and your family to share some quality time. Having a beautiful deck for your children to play on, your teenagers to sunbathe on, and for all of you to enjoy together is about more than home décor, it’s about making lasting memories.

    Low maintenance decking

Composite decking has a multitude of advantages over its natural wood counterpart. In addition to being much more eco-friendly, composite decking resists fire, fade, stains, and expansion.

    No yearly treatment required

Unlike timber decking, composite decking boards won’t rot, splinter or split. That means that the maintenance and repairs costs are virtually non-existent, as there’s no need to seal or stain composite decking boards like you would do with wooden decking boards. What’s more, composite decking features a slip-resistant surface in both dry and wet conditions – perfect for that extra peace of mind when your garden party is in full swing!

    Easy to clean

The revolutionary outer armour of the latest co-extruded composite decking boards protects the surface against common stains like ketchup, tree sap, or any other accidental spills. A simple wipe with a clean, wet cloth will see away easy stains, while a quick blast of a pressure washer will take care of tougher stains, such as bird poo.

Decking that stands the test of time

Building a beautiful deck in your outdoor space is easy when you partner with composite decking specialists who are as determined as you are to make your garden look its very best.

Anthurium plants are another choice worth considering. These are hearty-shaped plants that you’ll get in various colors such as pink, purple and red. They can endure all levels of indirect light and are easy to grow indoors. They do well in humid weather and moist soil but will grow and blossom faster with a higher level of indirect light.

    4. Ferns

Ferns will add that tropical look to your home interiors. They are low maintenance with minimal care requirements. Once you provide them with the right nutrients, light and moisture, you can be sure of healthy plants all year round. That’s not all, though! Ferns are effective in eliminating pollutants, which makes them a favorite choice among many homeowners.

Do you fancy plant hat bloom all year round? You won’t go wrong with poinsettias. They are holiday favorites that will bloom for months with minimal care. For excellent results, place the flowerpot close to a window and allow the plant to get at least five hours of light daily.

Which plants suit my home décor?

Choose indoor plans that blend in well with your aesthetics and décor. Single plan specimens are ideal for tiny rooms, while tall plants are perfect for rooms with horizontal lines. On the other hand, tall monster or giant ferns are excellent choices for a contemporary style with straight lines.

The flower colors are also of the essence. If your rooms feature white or a light cored background, plants with red, pink or orange flowers make excellent options. Similarly, white flower plants or those with variegated foliage are ideal for rooms with a dark background.

    The bottom line

You can create an attractive display in your home using various indoor plants. Choose plants that are easy to maintain, and use containers that match the plant colors. Moreover, buy from reputable sellers and enjoy healthy and beautiful plants in your home.
