Spring is here and that means it’s time to get rid of the old and bring in the new. Spring cleaning doesn’t just mean busting out the mop and bucket to deep clean your entire home—it should be a time for renovating, replacing, and discovering the things in your house that need to go. Have you been meaning to replace that old rickety dresser with something fabulous and stylish? Spring is the perfect time to throw out that old furniture and replace it with something beautiful and new. So if you’re ready to clean out your home this spring, here’s how to do it.

Clear Out Your Closet

So many of us are complete when it comes to clothes; the worst part is that we don’t even know it. How many shirts or dresses do you have hanging up in your closet that you haven’t touched in months or years? The answer is probably quite a few. Take the time to go into your closet and take out anything that you haven’t worn in the last month or two. Obviously, you can exclude winter jackets but don’t cut yourself too much slack. Throw all those neglected clothes in a big black trash bag and take it down to your local Goodwill.

Build Your Dream Bed

If you’ve been meaning to throw out that old comforter and replace your sheets, now is the time to do it! Winter has come and gone, give your bed a fresh feel and look. Chances are, you aren’t going to be needing that big heavy down comforter now that the weather has warmed up. Grab an Egyptian cotton blanket to replace your comforter and accentuate it with a matelassé coverlet. Considering how much time we all spend in bed sleeping and resting, don’t you want yours to be your own personal paradise?

Have a Garage Sale

What better way to get rid of all the stuff that has been taking up so much space in the garage than a yard sale? Are you tired of the mountains of boxes that have been taking up your storage unit? Get rid of all that junk you don’t need! Now that the weather has warmed up, it’s the perfect time to sell everything you no longer need. Not only will a garage or yard sale free up a bunch of space but you and the kids might even make enough for a little weekend family vacation.

Remodel

Have you been meaning to rip out those old wooden kitchen cabinets and replace them with something a little more modern? Why not take on a little home renovation project? For any major projects like flooring or shower remodels you shouldn’t go in alone, unless you have a great deal of experience. Replacing cabinets or building a storage shed in the backyard are great ways to get started if you’ve been itching to try some of the things you’ve seen on HGTV. Of course, if you have any major renovations in mind, the spring is a great time to hire a professional contractor to do them as well.

Furniture

Do you still have the couch and chairs from you and your spouse’s first apartment together? It might be time to upgrade. Throw that old couch on Craigslist so that another young couple or group of college kids can enjoy it. Is your kitchen table started to feel a bit worn down after years of use? Take a trip to Ikea and get inspired by the wide variety of kitchen furniture they have to offer.

If you walk through Ikea’s entire kitchen furniture section and you don’t find something you like, there is a good chance you never will no matter where you look.

Touch up with Paint

Once you or a professional has deep cleaned your entire house, it’s never a bad idea to go through and detail any scuffs. Over the years, your baseboards and walls can accumulate quite a few chips and marks. Make sure you have the right paint before taking a small brush to do a detailed touch up of all the damaged spots in the house.

Don’t let excuses stop you from making your spring cleaning and renovating goals come true! Use these helpful tips and get started today!
