  • Innovative Handmade Mimbre Chair by Eggpicnic

Innovative Handmade Mimbre Chair by Eggpicnic

Working with traditional materials and techniques doesn’t mean it will always result furniture’s pieces with traditional design, but something very modern and unique in the same time. This handmade mimbre chair is an evidence of that. Designed by South American studio Eggpicnic  specialized in the production of children toys, which range from limited edition tools to furniture, logos and illustrations, beautiful Amalia chair is an outstanding mix of functionality and aesthetics, tradition and modernity. Working closely with mimbre (wicker) artisans Francisco Palma and Mario Rojas, the design couple Christopher Macaluso and Camila De Gregorio has created a great looking chair bursting with originality, that cradles the sitter like a basket, a perfect place for reading or for relaxing moments.

The thing that make it so special is that it’s made using the natural plant fiber of Mimbre, a Chilean material used to make traditional objects through a complex procedure of hand weaving, a unique skill acquired by artisans from Chimbarongo. Using this material suggests a deep sense of tradition in the chair’s design, but it’s undulating, curvaceous shape featuring a perfect circle on each side of it, which reveals a convex hole in the middle of the woven structure.

Creative and eye-catching isn’t it? After some studies, the handmade Mimbre chair measures 80cm X 80cm X 65 cm (approximately 31 x 31 x 25 inches) and can be purchased on demand. What do you think? Would you consider it as an addition to your home?

It has been envisioned by Australian based studio Richard Kirk Architect, which delivers creative, functional and really wonderful buildings to their clients, buildings that are also built in strong connection to their landscape. Once part of the surrounding multi-residential enclave, the site is now a single detached  two storey dwelling, a riverfront house situated on a significant distance from the river’s edge distinguishing by historic public views from the boardwalk and an 80 year old Poincianna tree.

  • Spectacular Console Table Revealing a Sparkling Identity

Spectacular Console Table Revealing a Sparkling Identity

Not at all a typically table, Stellar Console Table will definitely remain in our memory as a unique piece of furniture.  With an extravagant and sparkling appearance, this spectacular console table envisioned by Jake Phipps combines geometric, balanced design with illusory details re-creating the beauty and luminosity of precious gemstones. The inspiration behind Stellar Table comes from the natural attributes of amethyst geodes and it seems like almost 900 individually sized and angled mirror pieces run through it from the curved top-right to the botttom-left corners, creating a strong contrast with the expansive, smooth surfaces.

This change in table’s design forms an optical dispersion that capture a different shade of light and color from the surrounding environment delivering it to the eye as one sparkling entity as designer said. Phipps’ commitment to this aesthetic of imitating a gemstone is evident in table’s conceptual shape: oblique with two corners perfectly convex, crystalline mirrors looking like cut diamonds. Stellar Console Table is priced at € 11,500 and is available in a limited edition of 25 pieces. Where do you think such a table’s design could be placed?
