  • DIY—Fix Your Noisy AC

    DIY—Fix Your Noisy AC

Your air conditioner will run with very little noise most of the time. Other times your system may get quite noisy all of a sudden and you’re not sure what has happened. There are a variety of things that can cause a noisy unit and you can try to fix them yourself. Some items may require you to call your air conditioning repair technician. Either way a noisy machine can become quite an annoyance.

    air-conditioner-repair

Check out these few DIY areas where you can fix your noisy air conditioning unit. Always remember if you’re in doubt, call the technician out.

    Loose Screws

When your system is running it vibrates the entire time. This is normal and just how the system runs. With all this vibration it can shake some of the screws loose in the system that hold panels and items together. One of the things to look for when your system is getting louder is these loose screws. Turn off the system before going into it with your tools. Check to see that all screws are tight and fitting properly. When they are tightened the noise should reduce if this was the main issue in the unit.

    Lubrication Issues

When your motor is in need of lubrication you may hear a grinding noise coming from the unit itself. By putting oil in the oil port of the system, you can reduce this friction and noise coming from the unit. It is recommended you do this at the beginning of each summer to make sure your unit is running properly and smoothly. .

    Fan Noises

Sometimes your fan can be the culprit of the noise coming from your unit. When this is the problem it could be several different issues going on with the fan.

First see if all the fan blades are straight. If any of the blades are bent even slightly, it can cause a noise in the unit. Once you know the blades are straight, there are a few other issues it could be.

The fan could have debris in front of or around it. Make sure that any obstacles are out of the fan and that it is cleaned on a regular basis. This will help prevent the noise as well.

Are the fan blades loose? This can cause a rattling or noise to be coming from the unit a well. Use a screwdriver or Allen wrench to tighten the blades back down and that should also stop the noise going on.

    Coil Fins

One other area to check when your system is noisy is the coil fins. This could be that something has gotten in the coil fin unit and it just needs to be cleaned. You can use your vacuum to clean it out easily. A coil fin may also be bent and it can cause noise as well. You can straighten those out with a fin comb.

These are just a few of the noises and cause that your air conditioner may become noisy this summer. By taking care of these issues you can prevent major air conditioner repair later on. Remember to always have regular maintenance run on the systems so you can easily keep the system for years to come. By scheduling annual maintenance you can insure your system will be around and that it will keep your home cozy and comfortable all summer long.

Call your HVAC technician today to schedule your maintenance. Don’t forget these DIY hacks for keeping the noise down as well. You can repair some of the problems yourself but remember to know when to call someone in.

In this case, the flooring isn’t designed to take center stage, but neither are the furnishings. Rather it’s the outdoors that provides a stark contrast of color against the beiges, browns and mauves to accentuate the focus toward the outdoors

The flooring is protected against fading thanks to a clear coat of silk natural oil, which also gives it a quiet luster. Natural grains and whorls are offset by chunky geometric patterns leading to the upstairs area.

    Great -Outdoors4

Muted tones of indoor décor encourage nature to be the canvas. Rather than peppering the walls with photos and paintings, the designer has elected to create a disparate and distinctive antithesis while still capturing much of the unbridled spirit of the outdoors. Chunky geometric corners with sharp angles provide a direct contrast to the free-flowing patterns of nature.

According to The Wood Galleries founder, Gary Victory, reclaimed oak flooring was chosen to “whet one’s appetite for carefree openness and freedom.” He continued, “It brings a hint of warmth and serenity to an otherwise starkly contrasted interior. “

Uncomplicated in its simplicity, the flooring together with the natural light and muted color scheme create a focal path to the patio and backyard area without the jarring interruption of walls, doorways or arches.

  • Making your office entrance inviting

    Making your office entrance inviting

We’ve all been there – a dark, uninviting, unfalteringly corporate office entrance which is uninspiring and a little daunting to enter. First impressions count – as a business, it’s important to maintain a fresh, light and friendly entrance area which is pleasant to be in and offers an enticing insight into what you do and who you are. If your reception area is cold, bleak, run-down or plain, it reflects badly on you. You want potential clients and staff alike to enjoy the time they spend in your entrance, however short that time may be! You know that your reception area and office entrance offer an important glimpse into the working and ethos of your business – so how you can you make a great first impression on clients and employees alike by creating an inviting entrance to your office?

    image

    Choosing Colour

Our brains and emotions are significantlyaffected and influenced by colour. Therefore if you use certain colours in your entrance area, you can create a friendlier feel, and as a consequence induce a more positive emotion in the people who pass through it. Whites and creams are always popular choices because they can be calming but are also inoffensive and corporate – but pale greys, pastel hues and even bright colours can give your office a friendly, appealing vibe too. The Use of Texture

Combining traditional harder textures (like wood, glass and plastic) with softer textures can take the edge off a room and give it a more homely feel. You don’t have to go out with cushions, rugs and throws of course – but the introduction of fabrics on walls or as part of the furniture, natural decorations made of wood or stone and glass vases filled with flowers are all fantastic choices.

    The Importance of Light

Similar to colour, different colours, types and strengths of lighting can influence our emotions and the way we feel in a particular space. Depending on what look you want to achieve, both bright and more subdued lighting can be inviting. If you can’t choose what sort of lighting might go well with your business and the existing style of your décor, then opting for a ‘Goldilocks’ not too bright, not too dark brightness is always a safe option. The style of your light fittings is also important – table and floor lamps with fabric shades are very soft and homely, wall fittings can be basic or cast creative shadows and spot lighting in the ceiling can be both bright and welcoming or subtle and calming.

    Flora and Fauna

Indoor plant hire for the office can add a fresh, natural dimension to your area. Plants have been shown to have a calming and inviting effect on the brain – and in the Japanese art of Feng Shui, plants play a very important role in inviting new people into a space and having a calming, welcoming effect on those already in it.Placing plants at the entrance of your office is considered to be very good Feng Shui for a variety of reasons. Some plants even clean the air we breathe!Aesthetically, they add a unique softness to what might be an otherwise hard area – filled with cold stone floors and blank white walls. Artificial plastic and silk plants are no match for real life plants –plus they’re actually much cheaper to hire than you think! If you fancy hiring beautiful living plants for your office entrance area, why not take a look at indoor plant hire for the office, to see what sort of plants would work well with your existing décor. You might be surprised at how much of a difference a bit of greenery makes.

  • Choosing the Perfect Colour of Bar Stools for Your Kitchen

Choosing the Perfect Colour of Bar Stools for Your Kitchen

Breakfast bar stools are the ideal seating solution for many homes and kitchens. They can serve your home not just as a functional item of furniture but as part of the décor, enhancing the overall effect of your kitchen’s design. However, choosing the right stools for your own, unique home and kitchen can be a challenge. In particular, it is hard to determine exactly which colour and style you could choose to create the greatest, most impactful visual and aesthetic effect.

    color-bar-stools-kitchen

There are a number of things you should consider when deciding what colour kitchen stools to purchase for your home.

    Does it Really Matter?

The short answer to this question is “yes.” However, that doesn’t mean the question is not one that’s worth considering. When presented with a dazzling array of different colour and style options and struggling to choose between them, you can start to wonder how big a difference your colour choice will really make.

However, breakfast bar stools tend to boast much more eye-catching and delightful designs than most other kinds of seating, and because they will be in regular use they will probably attract a lot of attention. While this is essentially a good thing, it does mean that they will probably become a specific feature of your décor whether you like it or not. Choosing the right colour will make sure they add to your kitchen rather than detract from it. That said, nobody is claiming that colour is the single most important thing to consider. A well-chosen design in the second most suitable colour may well look better than a mediocre design in exactly the right colour.

    Other Colours

In figuring out which colours actually will work in your kitchen, you will need to consider which colours are already present. This could mean the colour of the worktops, the cupboard doors and drawers, the walls, or even any very prominent appliances.

There are essentially two routes you can take in choosing stool colours to go with the colours that are already present in your kitchen. The first, which is probably the one that occurs most readily to a lot of people, is to choose matching or complementary colours. These will be the same colours or very similar shades, or else closely related colours that look very at-home together. The other, sometimes overlooked option is to go with a completely contrasting colour. This doesn’t work with 100% of combinations, but it will usually look good and a little bit of mental picturing will probably be enough to tell you whether a particular combination will work well or not. A complete contrast helps different elements to stand out against each other, and avoids the danger of two shades that look like they have not quite been successfully matched.

  • Make Art on your Walls

    Make Art on your Walls

Sometimes you might wish to decorate your home with more than just a layer of paint. Although carefully selected paint color scheme might do wonders for every room and create a completely new energy flow, sometimes it’s just not enough. People have craved to personalize their places of living since the earliest days. By making pieces of art on your walls, not only will you express your passion but also save money and have fun all the way. Here are some effective and easy-to-make ideas for decoration.

The best thing about these art pieces is that they need not match your furniture. Sometimes different themes and styles work together marvelously and create a cohesive whole. For each of these art projects you’ll need a plain canvas which can be bought at crafts stores.

    Floral Quotes

For this project you’ll need to paint a few newspaper sheets with a subtle coat of black watercolor paint. Once you have torn these sheets into strips and decoupage onto canvas, cut out the flowers shapes and use double-stick tape to paste them to canvas. Then paint the canvas surface with gray acrylic paint and remove flower shapes together with the tape. Now you can paint flowers with light gray shade of acrylic paint so that the words strike through. Between the flowers, you can add strips of water color painted paper with printed words, like positive messages or favorite quotes.

    Wild GraphicsOld-Paint

This one is fairly easy to do, and yet effective and eye catching. Take two canvases and paint them white. Set them side to side and coat one side of a yardstick in thick layer of dark color. Press the stick onto the canvases so it gets across both of them and repeat the process by repainting the stick and laying it in other directions each time. Have fun while you are moving canvases to another position and apply different colors till you make a perfect graphics.

    Quotes and PostersArt-Walls

This project is music and movie fans’ favorite. You can combine lyrics to your favorite song or movie quotes in heavy dark print and graphic motif that complements it. This canvas works great with Vintage Movie Poster Canvas Prints that can be ordered from a number of online retailers like Blue Horizon Prints. You can add the third dimension by adding a picture ledge which can store some of fan items or collectibles.

    New Life of Old Paint

In this technique you can use dried paint skins peeled form old paint tubes, palettes, brushes, drop cloths and all sorts of paint tools. Begin with painting canvas with several shades of green acrylic paint. You can achieve mottled effect by changing the layer thickness. By using decoupage technique, paste these paint scraps onto the canvas and let them dry. Frame the canvass with some wood scrapings.

    Raindrops Falling on my Head

Like the flowery decorations, this DIY project starts by painting canvas with metallic spray paint. While it dries, dilute pearly or metallic acrylic crafts paint with water, until you get silvery liquid. By varying concentration of paint, create two or three colors and load each into empty shampoo bottles. Now this is the fun part. Lean the canvas at a steep angle and put newspaper underneath to catch excess paint. Squeeze the first color along the top canvas edge, so it runs down the canvas, creating unique patterns. Once it dries flip the canvas vertically and repeat the process with remaining colors.

  • Creating the Ultimate Bathing Experience

    Creating the Ultimate Bathing Experience

Bathing is becoming a more private experience. Shrinking houses and budgets are making people less interested in whirlpools and hot tubs, and more in solo baths.

Even more importantly, solo baths are more important than ever for personal well-being. A disadvantage of always being connected is that we’re rarely alone. A disadvantage of working with our minds is that we’re rarely thinking about our bodies. A bath provides much-needed time alone and present our minds with what we’re feeling in our bodies at that moment.Bathing-Experience

Baths are good for the body and good for the mind. How can we make them even better?

    • High-quality bath liquids. A good selection of soaps, shampoos, exfoliants, and bubble baths make your bathing experience varied and fun. Why stick to just one brand or one scent?
    • Good bath caddies. You don’t need the inconvenience of picking bottles and soap bars out of your bath whenever they get knocked off the side. With a good bath caddy, all bottles and bars stay out of your way, but within easy reach.Bathing-Experience1
    • Free-standing bathtubs. Contemporary bathtubs are often set off to the side in an alcove. This is terrible for relaxation, especially if you dislike confined spaces. Now that baths are becoming more important, many homeowners are opting for free-standing tubs. These can be used as focal points in a room, giving bathers space to stretch out and relax. It also gives a bather a view of all the walls of a bathroom, giving you a chance to decorate with relaxing and beautiful art.
    • Advanced tub fillers for free-standing bathtubs. Many tub fillers nowadays can do a lot more than just filling a tub. Hand shower and freestanding shower attachments in particular can improve your bathing experience. Waterfall faucets can add a lovely auditory and sensory experience.
    • Bathing sound systems. Sound systems are great, but it’s a pain to get out of the bath and back into it just to adjust volume or track. Ordinary remotes and panels are dangerous near water, so they’re out. Specific bath sound systems have water-proof and safe control panels. Voice-activated technology is also becoming affordable and effective.
    • Relaxing lighting. Soften up your light with opaque windows, dimmer switches, and candles. If you want to get fancy (who doesn’t?), use LED lights installed in the bathtub or filler to light up the bath water.
    • Diffusers. Use essential oils in a diffuser to improve your experience. Choose oils appropriate to your mood: lavender and bergamot to relax, basil and peppermint to wake you up or energize you for a night out.
