Interesting Garden Pavillion for Flux Projects at Freedom Park in Atlanta

Sitting embodied as architecture- this was the ideas behind this nice garden pavillion we show you in today’s post. Imagined by architects Brian Brush and Yong Ju Lee from the New York-based design practice E/B Office, SEAT is an interactive architectural design created for 2012 Summer Pavilion for Flux Projects at Freedom Park in Atlanta, GA, which is a great opportunity for many in Atlanta to enjoy art, but also for artists to have audience for their work.

SEAT was chosen this summer’s Freedom Park Project from 89 entries, because it managed to draw jury’s attention by combining something that was visually compelling with something that was interesting to use and also met more of the this year’s criteria: high visibility, great impact, artistic merit, feasibility and safety for the audience.

The core of the project as you can see was the chair, a very important element in the use and experience of architecture, but which isn’t considered architecture at all, being rather related to furniture design or industrial design. So, what architects Brian Brush and Yong Ju Lee  wanted to do by creating this nice garden pavillion was to associate sitting in a designed object with architecture itself, thus trying to change the perception of domestic objects through their use as architectural units and components.

The design is a collection of about 400 simple wooden chairs custom-connected to one another through simple lag bolts, clamps, and screws that are hidden from view, in the form of a sine wave arch rising from the ground. Besides the fact that visitors can watch it, they can actually sit on the chairs or even in the shade beneath them, regarding the upward flow of chairs transcending their function. Chairs suspended above ground between these zones restore the role of the seated object as one that can also play as structure, decoration, and enclosure. Although it seems fragile, the construction allow for stability, flexibility and safety thanks to redundancy and connection.

  • Modern Meets Victorian Heritage: Shakin Stevens House in Melbourne

Modern Meets Victorian Heritage: Shakin Stevens House in Melbourne

Shakin’ Stevens House is a private renovated property located in Melbourne, Australia which draws attention through a fabulous combination of volumetric architecture, contemporary interior design and Victorian heritage. The residential project designed by design based Melbourne practice  Matt Gibson Architecture + Design Pty Ltd  is the result of an inventive plan based on the client’s wish to have a house connected with “green” space, more spacious and more functional indoor spaces where the color palette should be predominantly white with a green highlight.

When we look at Shakin’ Stevens House, one can observe is a two-faces property, an interesting detail which gives it a truly original appearance. Viewed from the front, the house has retained its Victorian heritage where a bright green door create a strong contrast with full white background, while viewed from the back it appears as a modern, open and free-flowing house composed of three white cubes that look like dices. Outdoors and indoors interact in a very functional way, providing a wonderful continuation throughtout the structure,  achieved by reducing internal walls and doors to an absolute minimum.

Thus, the newer space is visually extended, bigger, light filled, more functional through separation of sleeping zones and a flexible living zone that it can be upsized (externally). Colour was a vital strategy in adding glow and clarity to this expression on a number of levels. The house modern interior design is very inviting, suggesting clarity, freshness, very close to nature due to predominantly white and green tones completed with warm tones. The green spaces found both inside and outside the house became the focus with the white cubes acting as lens for these events, dissolving barriers of enclosure- the same idea of flow and continuity.

  • Creative Design Characterizing Melted Snow Table by AAStudio

Creative Design Characterizing Melted Snow Table by AAStudio

Designers never stops to amaze us (in a good way) with their exuberant creativity when it comes to furniture design. Even the most trivial item of furniture such as table, which you expect to have its common appearance, they have sometimes the ability to transform them into beautiful works of art. Take for example this intriguing yet innovative and interesting Melted Snow Table worth of a scenario that we have decided to share with you. It’s not a table that you see everyday, but something original and contemporary which also symbolizes everyday life.

In fact this was the main idea when Romanian-based design studio – AAStudio – designed this table with such a creative design. This is why   it showcases a unique capacity of becoming the focal point in a modern space, for example. To achieve this piece which resembles a rock formation covered with snow like the mountains, designers have combined stratified wood and Corian. Very strong material,  non-toxic and non-porous, the Corian could easily take that shape through a thermoforming process, a shape suggesting the snow that covers the table, while laminate wood acts as a stone,  stylized in a raw form which also gives an interesting  texture.
